As ever Kris Boyd was playing to the gallery during Sky Sports’ coverage of Celtic’s 2-0 win away to Ross County.

With the exception of one club every side in the SPFL Premiership has suffered from penalties being awarded post VAR that wouldn’t have been given previously.

From his first appearance on today’s show from Dingwall Boyd was a picture of misery, no doubt anticipating an away win in the build up to the fixture he dreads on Saturday April 8.

In the final minute of the first half Alex Iacovitti rose with Cameron Carter-Vickers to deal with a cross from the Celtic left.

For extra security the Ross County defender had his arm at full extension with the ball striking him.

Once highlighted by VAR it was a cut and dried decision, Jota netted with Boyd mumbling his unhappiness at the decision and outcome, referencing a bad decision against Kilmarnock as his justification.

Hopefully the former Scotland striker will be just as upset on Saturday afternoon.

When I see a player shooting a free-kick over the bar I think back to my engineering mechanics.
When you strike the ball, you impart velocity to it. But there is a forward velocity component as well as an up and down, or vertical, velocity, which is subject to the force of gravity.
The forward velocity is constant. What this means is that the longer the ball is in the air the more time it has to come down.
So spinning the ball with your foot imparts a centripetal force which causes the ball to accelerate towards an imaginary centre, on the inside of direction of spin, allowing it to stay in the air longer. And so it has more time to descend onto its target, the goal. Nakamura understood this to perfection!

For me it is a stonewall penalty, it has been stated multiple times by ragin pundits that his arm is in a natural position – rubbish… look at big CCV arm position, that’s the natural position…..
