The Twitter account of Dan McCroskrie is gaining some attention.

Apparently he is an Influencer with a regular column in the Scottish Daily Express (part of the Reach Group with the Daily Record) and occasional appearances on BBC Scotland’s The Nine. Despite that profile his influence can be measured by just 5,300 followers on Twitter.

Taking a leaf out of the play-book of Murdo Fraser big Dan makes a play for the hearts and minds of the Ibrox support although every now and then he oversteps the mark and has to delete his Twitter contents. Fortunately screen captures ensure that his thoughts on Kevin Clancy are retained.

Just like Fraser, McCroskrie is also a failure at the Ballot Box. In 2019 he stood under the Union Jack at a by-election in Leith Walk, attracting just 777 votes for a place on Edinburgh City Council.

Despite his high profile and celebrity status he managed to reduce the vote for the Scottish Conservative Party from 14.4% down to 10.7% of the turnout.

Rob Munn skooshed the election with 2586 votes, more than three times the amount that McCroskrie attracted, despite that he remains a go-to guy for BBC Scotland who won’t ask about his now deleted Clancy tweet from January 2022.

Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross is a refereeing colleague of Clancy.
