Ange Postecoglou has turned the media over by flipping back the comments that left Neil Banfield traumatised following the Viaplay Cup Final.
Up until last Sunday Micky Beale’s assistant was virtually unknown outside the tightest of Scottish football circles.
Suddenly, two months after the Hampden clash, Banfield wanted to discuss comments from Postecoglou that left a little taste in the mouth. The exclusive interview didn’t provide any clue about what sort of comments had upset the Ibrox assistant.
No-one in the media asked Beale about the comments when he was at Aberdeen last Sunday, similarly Friday’s media conferences went by without any questioning until it came to media time at Celtic.
Referring to the unknown incident mentioned in the Daily Mail interview by Banfield, The Sun reports:
Asked if his lack of detail on the particular incident annoyed him, Postecoglou continued: “No because I don’t care. It doesn’t bother me. If something has upset him, it’s upset him. He can explain it.
“It’s got nothing to do with me. Like I said, we all have the opportunity to use the platform we have to speak to the broader audience and how you use that platform is up to each individual.”
Banfield was at Celtic Park on April 8 but appears not to have raised the issue directly with Postecoglou.
It is a very strange incident, dropping it into an unexpected interview last Sunday might have been part of some master-plan but once again Celtic’s manager has out-smarted the media by throwing it back to Banfield to explain.
For those deeply interested in the incident they will have the opportunity in the post-match conference at Hampden tomorrow to ask Beale about the incident involving his 61-year-old assistant.

If Ange was a politician, he would be the choice guest on Question Time. Highly Intelligent, articulate, quick thinking. Not only will he never collapse when challenged by “our” gormless media, but he constantly exposes them for being the shallow, half-witted establishment stooges they are.
