When you talk as much as Micky Beale it is natural that you are going to trip yourself up at times, offering contrasting views from week to week, or in his case from day to day or sentence to sentence.

Arriving in November he revealed that there wasn’t much wrong with the Europa League finalists, in midweek they were four or five players short of challenging Celtic.

Last week Ross Wilson was an incredible influence, an achiever, a close friend and fellow football obsessive, this week we’ve learned that Beale finks he can do Wilson’s job in his spare time.

A month ago he told newspapers that he could better Celtic with his budget squad, asked about that by broadcasters he revealed that he had an unlimited transfer budget.

With three share issues and the rapid exit of chairman Douglas Park has prompted speculation about behind the scenes issues at Ibrox, Beale has dropped in a very telling comment to the Daily Record/Sunday Mail:

What is a director of football job, or sporting director, whatever you want to call it?

What’s important is that if John Bennett (chairman) and the rest of the board think they need someone safeguarding the club that it’s done. It’s about the continuity of the club and going in the direction the board wants.

I think it’s important the board decides what is right for their club. Ross was a sounding board for me. He kept me positive. He’s not here now but I have a fantastic relationship with Stewart Robertson (MD) and lots of board members, so I’ll be happy with whatever the club decides.

Why Beale should feel the need to mention the continuity of the club seems very strange, it is not as if he is going to be questioned about share issues or the club being short on funds after playing in the Champions League boosted by the sales of Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey.

Although he is a fan of Chelsea’s Mason Moult Beale won’t be bringing the England internationalist to Ibrox this summer.
