Ange Postecoglou wouldn’t entertain any sort of offer for Callum McGregor.

Back in the autumn the Celtic skipper missed out on an appearance in the Bernabeu Stadium against Real Madrid but put in a polished and impressive 90 minutes against the Spanish national team in midweek.

Real Madrid are clearly far superior to the Spanish national side but any watching La Liga club would have been intrigued by the performance of McGregor.

The Celtic midfielder was the only SPFL player on the park until a late cameo from Lawrence Shankland, as usual McGregor was at least on a par with the celebrated Anglos from Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Aston Villa.

Apart from some interest from Brendan Rodgers at Leicester there has barely been any speculation about transfer interest in the Celtic skipper which is exactly the way that his manager wants things to stay.

Responding to the McGregor transfer scenario, the Daily Mail reports Postecoglou saying:

It’s something I wouldn’t entertain. When the club talks to me about any bids, I usually say my phone’s not working.

But that wouldn’t surprise me with Callum. He’s shown he can play at the very highest level, but I still think his best football is ahead of him. Thankfully for us, he’s really committed to this club.

McGregor turns in an incredible volume of matches, playing every minute of both Scotland internationals.

Turning 30 in the summer the fact that he was 21 when he made his Celtic debut appears to have given him extra stamina and energy- two of many qualities that Postecoglou will be calling on in the final two months of the season.

McGregor is under contract until 2026.

Thank you Callum for all you’ve given us and I hope Ange is right that the best is still to come but I’ll be more than happy if you continue to provide more of the same.
