The Daily Record are reporting that Cameron Carter-Vickers requires a knee operation that will bring his season to an end.

Confusingly the report also claims that he will play against Motherwell on Saturday and in the Scottish Cup semi-final on April 30 before being operated on to ensure that he will be fit for the start of next season. The SPFL season kicks off on August 5/6.

Scott Burns has broke the news and is generally reliable on these sort of issues, in November he was first with the news that Giorgos Giakoumakis was looking to leave Celtic after talks over a new contract broke down.

Yuki Kobayashi stood in for Carter-Vickers at Kilmarnock last Sunday with Carl Starfelt switching over to the right side of central defence.

Last night the Record reported:

Celtic fear Cameron Carter-Vickers might not see out the season.

The USA international has been playing through the pain barrier with a knee injury and has remained one of Ange Postecoglou ’s top performers. But the iron man defender could go under the knife after next weekend’s Scottish Cup semi-final showdown with Rangers in a bid to be fighting fit for the start of next season. The Hoops are 12 points clear in the title race and may even clinch the Premiership in the first game after the split.

With the league virtually in the bag next weekend’s Old Firm blockbuster at Hampden could open the door to a fifth Parkhead treble in seven years. The United States national team revealed last month that Carter-Vickers had pulled out of their squad with a knee injury and the Parkhead medical team are monitoring the player before making a decision on his involvement over the rest of the campaign.

Carter-Vickers missed last Sunday’s win over Kilmarnock. However, he is in line to face Motherwell this weekend before the Rangers blockbuster on April 29.

The ‘blockbuster’ is actually on April 30.

If Celtic win the semi-final their season will finish at Hampden on June 3. If the time frame on a knee operation is being fit for next season it is clearly a serious issue.

Carter-Vickers has played in 28 of Celtic’s 32 SPFL matches but missed two of the the six Champions League matches in the autumn.

Starffelt’s passing has improved, since he switched to the right!

I thought that too but, unfortunately, he makes mistakes in far too many games. Predictably so.
He’s generally okay imo but not the star his name suggests.
