Rubbish, pathetic, shameful- Chris Sutton back on the warpath

Chris Sutton has described the away fan ban at the Glasgow Derby as pathetic.

In the summer of 2018 Dave King announced that instead of their traditional allocation of 7,000 seats at the Broomloan Road Stand Celtic would get the same 800 corner seats as every other SPFL club receives for Ibrox.

Celtic returned that move and are reported to have been trying to restore the previous away allocations without any success.

The remaining two Derby matches will be played in front of home fans only with little sign of compromise from either party.

Having 800 away fans appears to be more bother than it is worth in terms of segregation and additional security, on Saturday 60,000 home fans will roar on Ange Postecoglou’s side in the hope of taking a decisive step towards retaining the title.

Sutton played in the fixture and has watched it from the media gantry, ahead of Saturday’s clash he told the Daily Record:

I don’t like the fans’ situation at all. It’s rubbish for Scottish football. I think having no away fans is rubbish for the perception of Scottish football. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

When I first joined Celtic, going to Ibrox and having 7500 behind the goal and likewise when Rangers came to Celtic Park made it a far better spectacle. It’s shameful and a really bad look for Scottish football around the world.

I just think it’s petty, and it’s something Rangers really need to sort out. I can’t see the upside over all this? What is the benefit of banning away fans from the fixture? This game is big around the world and the lockout is pathetic. I think if you asked both sets of supporters, they would say the same thing. It’s ridiculous and it diminishes the spectacle.

The notion that the Glasgow Derby has some worldwide appeal seems misplaced, if it held significance in the UK it would have a prime Sunday afternoon slot but will kick off at 12 noon on Saturday as Sky Sports get their minor attractions out of the way.

On Sunday Leeds United play Crystal Palace followed by Liverpool against Arsenal with those fixtures both getting the big build up.

Petty it might be might be, right enough! But for some, that provides a chance to excel and distinguish one’s-self!
Maybe the lesson is to never take a verified
    “Glib And Shameless Liar”
    at face-value.
Which the SFA did to the detriment of the fixture.

Yes Chris but why any Celtic fan wants to listen to 700-7,500 knuckledradders chant and sing about Paedos or Fenian blood for 120 minutes is beyond me.
That’s no a spectacle but rather an avoidable disaster.

60 can Party in safety hopefully as we pump that lot rotten.
