Standards are falling faster than circulation at the Daily Record with a couple of malcontents getting their thoughts printed in The Hotline.

With fiction merging closer to FACTS! On a daily basis the fall-out from Saturday’s defeat to Celtic has brought about some incredible over-reactions.

From Ally McCoist to Kenny Miller via James Tavernier and Micky Beale the Gullible & Deluded have been fed more conspiracies than they know what to do with. Meanwhile in the real world no referee has awarded a penalty against the Ibrox Tribute Act in the last 49 SPFL matches, Steven McLean is unlikely to break rank on Saturday, as a precaution Andrew Dallas is on VAR.

After four days of noise, distractions and deflections the SPFL table doesn’t lie with one set of supporters afraid to take a look at the state of play after 31 matches.

Featured in today’s Record Hotline we have:

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, added: “It’s amazing the power referee’s have to influence things. According to Rangers fans Celtic are 12 points clear because of refs, have a greater goal difference of 29 because of refs, have won three out of four games against them because of refs and even because of refs Rangers are the worst team in Champions Leagues history! Now that is an influence.”

Finally, and Henry Moffat, Stirling, appears to have the popcorn out as he said: “What a glorious time to be a Celtic supporter. The board, manager and players deserve massive credit for making us the single dominant club in Scottish football on and off the park, with finances that David Murray could only have dreamed of. The gap between us and the other mob is at its biggest in history and getting bigger every week. Well done Celtic.”

Not so long ago any critical comment of Sir David would have been pulled even before the copy had been sent to Charlotte Square to ensure it was sufficiently fawning.

Print circulation of the Record dipped below an average of 60,000 per day during February.
