Jonny McFarlane has let his guard slip by criticising the Golden Boys of Nico Raskin and Todd Cantwell.

Micky Beale’s stunning January signings have been held up as the way ahead for the troubled Ibrox Tribute Act but when he got to Hampden for the Viaplay Cup Final the rookie boss put them on the bench to watch John Lundstram and Glen Kamara labour for over an hour.

That time on the bench was the best form that either player has shown since their January moves, instantly they were elevated to the sort of lofty status that Ianis Hagi and Malik Tillman had previously enjoyed.

At Celtic Park two weeks ago they were given their chance and flopped spectacularly against an off form Celtic.

Regardless of that the loyal bears claimed a moral victory- Raskin covered every blade of grass in a terrier like performance while Cantwell showed why he is the Pound Shop Jack Grealish, nice touches, nice hair, lots of dramatics and absolutely no product.

The Golden Duo put in even more inept performances in the defeat at Aberdeen yesterday with Fan Media mogul McFarlane forced to admit the truth in his post-match podcast.

One last thing, I started this by talking about Cantwell and Raskin as being guys that you would look to build the team around going forward

They are showing a worrying propensity to kind of disappear a bit in these kind of games and it is understandable that they are going to take a bit of time to get used to the kind of blood and thunder element of Scottish football.

Rangers against Aberdeen is always going to have a bit of that but they need to get a hold of these types of games fairly sharpish. And the next one is the most important of all.

These are absolutely very talented lads, there is no doubt about that but you can’t just disappear into your shell when you are a Rangers player, if you want to make it work you have to stand tall and start to help dominate games.

With the ear of the club McFarlane has been polishing turds for two years, digging deep for Stats Bombs facts that prove James Tavernier is a serial winner, that Ryan Kent is the Step Over King with the greatest ratio of assisted assists in British football.

If Beale makes it three defeats in four matches next Sunday at Hampden McFarlane may have to admit that he’s badly wrong once again as he talks up the superstars of Ibrox.
