A year on and thank goodness for The Legend that is Aaron Ramsey

Exactly a year ago Celtic fans were going through one of the most tense, traumatic days of their life.

The SPFL Premiership title had been returned after a year out on loan but during the second half of the season there had been a highly unexpected shadow cast.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst couldn’t field a team to beat Aberdeen, Ross County or Dundee United, they managed to draw at home to Motherwell twice while losing home and away to Ange Postecoglou’s new look Celtic.

But somehow a collection of freaky circumstances saw Borussia Dortmund, Red Star Belgrade, Sporting Braga and RB Leipzig defeated with John Lundstram apparently emerging as the Greatest Midfielder on Earth

The city of Seville had to host the final with 40,000 loyal bears set to inflict their culture on the Spanish city with the 11th best team in Germany standing between Ryan Jack and Leg End status.

As the elderly and disabled bears sweated in the stands of the Sanchez Pizwan Stadium the nightmare looked on when Joe Aribo opened the scoring.

For 12 long minutes the Tribute Act was in front but fortunately James Tavernier, Calvin Bassey, Connor Goldson and Allan McGregor did their thing to allow Rafael Borre to equalise.

In the 88th minute Ryan Kent choked his shot when almost any other sort of connection would have made him a national hero with the match going to extra-time and penalties.

The wily old fox in the blue dug-out had played his master card late in extra-time, taking off unhappy substitute Fashion Sakala to send on big match specialist Aaron Ramsey.

Every Eintracht penalty found the target but Ramsey’s tame effort was blocked by Kevin Trapp.

There was still a few penalties to go before Colombian ace Borre stepped up to drill in the winner to take Europa League bragging rights to Frankfurt.

Thank you Aaron, thank-you Eintracht.

I’m probably not alone in this, but I opted to watch the play-off game between Northampton and Mansfield that night instead….

Really shouldn’t be thinking about crap like this.
