Barry Ferguson wants Micky Beale to hand 12 month deals to two of his out-of-contract flops.

Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield have been at Ibrox for a combined 11 years with each midfielder with two medals to show for their efforts.

No Daily Record reader can be in any doubt about Ferguson’s passion for football clubs from Ibrox, it seems that Jacko and Scotty are also ‘pure Rainjurz men’ and deserving of new deals because they understand the club whatever that means.

After dismissing the prospect of new deals for Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent, Ferguson highlights the two out of contract flops that he wants to see included in the Beale Revolution:

There are two other players in that dressing room who are also out of contract and are, I believe, absolutely crucial to Michael Beale and not only on the pitch. I’m talking about Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield.

I know there will be some folk shaking their heads at that, but hear me out. It isn’t just a rebuild that’s needed at Ibrox – it’s major surgery and Michael knows that.

That will mean a host of players coming to the club who might think they know the score, but until they walk through the doors at Ibrox they won’t have a clue what’s about to hit them in terms of expectation, pressure and intensity. There’s nothing else like it in football, apart from across the city, perhaps.

And while these new faces settle in and adapt to a new way of life, they are going to need people around them who know exactly what is needed to play for Rangers.

Jack and Arfield fall into that category and if it were up to me, I’m keeping Ryan Jack and Scotty Arfield, even if they don’t play every week. Look, they are good enough to play for Rangers, there’s no doubt about that. I’m not saying that out of sentiment.

I honestly believe they’ve still got a part to play, but off the field they can be a massive influence.

It might only be a one-year contract but it’s important to keep guys around the club who know what it’s all about. Jack does and it’s the same with Arfield. He’s a bit older but sometimes when you wipe the floor with a squad, you have to keep some people who have a bit of experience and knowledge of the pressures of playing for a club like Rangers.

If they’ve still got it in their legs – and both of them do – I would have no qualms for them to stay around.

With James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, John Lundstram and Borna Barisic hanging around alongside Todd Cantwell and Nico Raskin the summer Revolution might not be all that disillusioned bears are anticipating.
