There is just one obstacle remaining for Jose Cifuentes to complete a move to Ibrox- agreeing a transfer fee with his current club.

Some people might think that agreeing a fee is the first and most essential element of a transfer but delivering feel-good stories is the priority for the Sports Team at the Daily Record.

The MLS publishes salary details of all players with the Record reporting a near 40% wage hike to entice Cifuentes to Scotland.

Record Sport reported earlier this week that the Ibrox side were set to hold further talks with the Ecuador star and Stefan Jarrin to negotiate a contract for the star, with his deal in Major League Soccer set to expire at the end of the year. Now reports emerging from Cifuentes’ homeland suggest that the LA FC star has agreed terms over a contract that will take him to the Scottish Premiership.

Bola report that a $700,000-per-year (£567,000) deal has been settled on by Rangers and the 24-year-old, and marks a “considerable increase” on the salary he was receiving in America – breaking down at £10,000-per-week. In the latest announcement of MLS salaries it was stated that Cifuentes rakes in around $511,750 per year (£410,000) which equates to just over £7,900-a-week.

The report suggests that the offer priced out Turkish side Fenerbahce who were also interested in the playmaker this summer. It is noted a deal makes him “one of highest paid Ecuadorian footballers”.

However, Rangers still have to iron out the final details of a summer transfer. LA FC do not want the player to leave for nothing when his contract expires.

They are open to a deal but a fee has yet to be agreed with the American outfit.

Having offered a huge wage hike to the player Los Angeles FC will be holding out for a fee similar to the £1m that was paid out to Norwich and Standard Liege to sign Todd Cantwell and Nico Raskin.
