Five years on from their exclusive story of a mystery bid from a mystery Chinese club the Daily Record is faced with telling their army of readers that Alfredo Morelos will be leaving Ibrox on a free transfer.

The chunky Colombian moved to Ibrox a year after Celtic signed Moussa Dembele with the Glasgow based publisher anxious to try and present some sort of rivalry and comparison.

Morelos will leave Ibrox with one winners medal to his name after six years of toiling to hit 20 SPFL goals in a season. After yesterday’s comments it is unlikely that the 26-year-old will add to this season’s tally of 11.

Galatasaray, Porto and Seville have been the clubs most regularly linked under the rules of Morelos Transfer Bingo with the average fee being £20m. The same fee that Celtic got for Dembele in 2018.

Bizarrely Aston Villa during Steven Gerrard’s time in charge was another lazy option but despite two transfer windows at Villa Park the former Ibrox boss didn’t go near his old striker.

The Record has generated plenty of clicks and pageviews on the back of their Morelos stories, no doubt there will be plenty more in the coming months as the credibility of the title crashes quicker than the value of the former Colombian international ace.
