There was finally some trophy joy at Ibrox today as Malky Thomson’s Bearettes conceded a stoppage time goal to deny Celtic the SWPL title.
While Craig McPherson celebrated in traditional fashion next season Fran Alonso will be preparing for Champions League qualifiers while the Bearettes will be slogging away at Murray Park to the same old training drills.
Eight thousand long suffering fans turned up at Ibrox to witness the sort of turgid performance that was the hallmark of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s reign.
While the Dutchman was ditched after a year in the job it seems that Thomson, known in the game as the baby-sitter due to his friendship with Alex McLeish, seems to have a job for life at Murray Park.
Celtic had finished up with a 2-0 win over Hearts when Lauren Davidson scored in stoppage time to give Glasgow City a win at Ibrox and the SWPL title.
The Glasgow City fans celebrated- as did more than a few home fans inside Ibrox as they realised that Glasgow City had achieved what their own lot had failed to do- stoap Selik.
Never been so happy to see my team lose
