Late on Thursday night the Daily Record ran with their claim that Ryotaro Ito is on Celtic’s transfer radar.
Signing another player from the J-League wouldn’t be the biggest surprise for Celtic fans this summer but it seems highly unlikely that the Albirex Niigata will be joining in the Huddle any time soon.
Celtic will be in action in Japan during July but Ito won’t be part on their squad.

God they’ve gone early with the stabs in the dark haven’t they?
Look we are doing our work but people trying to identify who we are trying to, you know, sort of earmark for next year are…
Fair to say, if they are taking punts now they are well, well, well, well, well of the mark. Well off the mark, without taking about specific players.
As denials go that is about as close as you are likely to get to an emphatic put down, Postecoglou didn’t mention the player by name but he did seem to take some pleasure out of responding to the question.
A no comment, or ‘it is just speculation’ would have been the standard managerial reply to the question but the Celtic boss sometimes does things very differently.
Since moving to Celtic Postecoglou has signed six players from the J-League with Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate first picks when they are fit and available.
