It took an 81st minute equaliser from Callum McGregor to preserve Ange Postecoglou unbeaten home record in domestic competitions.

Curtis Main scored twice for the visitors and will go home wondering why there wasn’t at least a hat-trick after he came close with three second half chances.

Tomoki Iwata replaced Yuki Kobayasji in central defence but journeyman Main gave the January signing and Carl Starfelt a torrid afternoon almost single handedly.

The malaise set in as early as the third minute when Tony Ralston and Joe Hart were caught short allowing Main to open the scoring.

A brilliant finish from Kyogo Furuhashi in the 14th minute brought Celtic level but the former Motherwell and Aberdeen striker headed the visitors back in front in the 39th  minute after a VAR check for offside.

Ange Postecoglou made four changes in the 70th minute, McGregor curled home an equaliser from 20 yards out but there wasn’t to be a dramatic late winner.
