BBC Scotland were denied access to the media conference to introduce Brendan Rodgers to the Celtic support.

The state broadcaster provides extensive coverage of Scottish football through television, radio and the internet but it seems that there has been some sort of fall out with Celtic although no details have been released.

Sky Sports led the questions at today’s 4pm media conference but there was no-one from the BBC to follow up with questions to the new Celtic boss.

At 4.18pm the broadcaster announced:

BBC Scotland have released a statement about being denied access to the media conference.

It reads: “We’re sorry that Celtic did not allow us to access today’s media event. We are in discussions with the club in an effort to resolve the situation.”

That was followed later by:

BBC Scotland has asked Celtic for comment on the decision to deny the BBC access to the media conference and is awaiting a response.

With the media conference live on You Tube the BBC were able to get all of the content open to others but were prevented from shaping the debate with their own questions.

BBC Scotland has a broadcasting contract with the SPFL that gives them an exclusive pre and post match interview with all managers.

Conference starts at 23 minutes

  • Rob O'Keeffe says:

One of the main reasons I wouldn’t give them the time of day is because of the amount of TV and radio contributors involved in the illegal EBT scheme, which they employ, who cheated Celtic out of titles and cups.Send out a clear statement that due to these employees, they are not welcome.

  • Seppington says:

Ban the rest of the Scottish press whilst you’re at it…none of them are our friends in any way.

  • John McNulty says:

Especially when therangers played a Saturday this season and Celtic played the Sunday, and the Sunday highlights presenters were 3 rangers supporters in Steven Thompson, Kenny Miller and Richard Foster.

    No impartiality there!

  • Tom says:

Has the celtic board finally grown a set of balls and banned the biased bbc. This is long overdue with there flagship Sportscene being Sevco orientated

  • Si says:

This is hopefully the first blow struck of the much needed fightback.
Next it’s the referee’s who are quickly making our game utterly farcical.
In 2012 the Celtic board failed the fans and the support, time to show lessons have been learned.
Softly, Softly approach has been shown to be insignificant, let’s unite the full support and say enough is enough.
