Kyogo Furuhashi’s agent isn’t expecting an exodus of Celtic’s Japanese players.

A change in management always creates some uncertainty, when players have switched continent as well as club it is natural that there will be speculation that they will look to move on, either to follow the departed manager or simply to get out after a significant change in the set up.

No player is more associated with Ange Postecoglou than Kyogo, the scorer of five cup final goals as Celtic won three cup competitions and the winner of multiple Player of the Year awards after helping to deliver the treble.

Signed from Vissel Kobe in July 2021 as Celtic prepared to sell Odsonne Edouard, the Japanese striker is adored by hoops supporters with his 35 goal season bound to have attracted interest from elsewhere.

Akihito Ido turned out to be more than an agent- after negotiating the transfer for Kyogo the striker asked him to son hang around in Glasgow, eventually staying for 18 months with five more signings from the J-League making a significant impact on Celtic’s success. He also became a Celtic employee.

The agent turned settler returned to Japan in January but doesn’t expect Kyogo or anyone else to use a change in management at Celtic to agitate to follow Postecoglou out of the club.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Ido said:

I don’t think the new manager will struggle with the situation. These players have been playing in Scotland for some time now. They know how things work. They understand the club.

Japanese players are very dedicated and professional and, whoever the manager is, be it Brendan Rodgers or whoever, I am sure they will do their best for the club. I really don’t think there will be any struggle for them. You know, I think they will be okay.

Kyogo, Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda are currently with the Japanese national squad and are bound to know what other opportunities are out there.

There could be other clubs interested in signing them but the expected appointment of Rodgers and guaranteed Champions League football should ensure that those three players are at Celtic beyond the transfer window.
