Two days before pre-season starts Micky Beale has still to bring in either of the ‘number nines’ that he identified as a priority position at the end of last season.
After placing his trust in Alfredo Morelos the rookie Ibrox boss tried Fashion Sakala then Antonio Colak through the centre in the closing games of the season.
Beale moved quickly to sign midfielder Kieran Dowell, defender Dujon Sterling and goalkeeper Jack Butland before splashing out £3.5m on Sam Lammers who has scored five goals in the last three seasons.
With Morelos, Malik Tillman, Scott Arfield and Ryan Kent walking away there is a real lack of goals in the remainder of the squad with just six weeks to go before the Third Qualifying Round of the Champions League.
Picking up on the failures to sign a striker the Daily Record reports:
Rangers have had a low ball offer for Feyenoord striker Danilo booted out as they ramp up their search for a new No.9.
Record Sport understands an initial undisclosed bid for the Brazilian was instantly booted into touch by the Dutch champions who have slapped a price tag of more than £5m on the 24-year-old. But, while sources in the Netherlands believe the two clubs remain ‘miles apart’, Danilo’s name remains high on a list of potential attacking targets drawn up by Ibrox boss Michael Beale.
Beale’s priority remains to splash out a significant proportion of his summer budget on Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers – who spent a season on loan at Feyenoord, becoming a fans favourite at De Kuip, before making the move to Italy’s Serie A last summer.
But, while Rangers remain locked in negotiations over a price for the Nigerian international, those talks appear to have stalled over Cremonese’s £6.5m valuation.
A fee of £6.5m shouldn’t be any problem for Beale after £6m was ring-fenced to sign Tillman boosted by the alleged cancellation fee and sell-on percentage from Bayern Munich.
That Bayern Munich thing is the gift that keeps on giving.
Beale must be quite concerned about the CL qualifiers?
If his team fails to qualify, then Bennett and Bisgrove are highly unlikely to step forward,
and accept any blame for the lack of – decent – signings/loans.
Beale has his hands tied behind his back: just to replicate last season’s winning stats.
would be an achievement – but unacceptable for the bears. 🙂
Bloody Hell… I’ve nearly fallen outta bed just now… That rancid rag using words like ‘booted out’ – ‘miles apart’ and ‘talks have stalled’ regarding a Sevco transfer target ! – Their critically dwindling daily sales will take another serious hit tomorrow then me thinks…
A Sevco Statement o’ Clock is probably in the post to the rag as I type this !
Lol it’s all right playing klub manager on the PlayStation, but a lot more tougher in real life,eh Mr Bean.
Plus all of those blue pencils and Todd Cantwell mugs sold during the close season , must have brought in plenty of transfer dough ! Right ?
This boy Danilos name can stay top of the list of targets all day long. All the men with deep pockets have fled like rats deserting that ship before it sinks. Now with no soft loans from director after director they’re f***ed. With all the European monies dwindled away the only recourse is the money Bayern Munich are giving away
For a club operating on soft loans & penny share schemes to keep the head above water & pay wages they seem to be in the market to spend millions………depending upon which rag you read…… they’ve got nothing & are relying on freebies to get the new season revamp going
What did they offer to pay in? Actual money or some more recently created Sevco confetti shares?
