Stephen McGowan is reporting that Ange Postecoglou has informed Celtic that he wants to speak to Spurs- and take John Kennedy with him to London.

As Celtic players and staff enjoyed a private celebration on Saturday night it is reported that Dermot Desmond was informed of the manager’s decision.

It will hardly have come as a surprise to the Celtic hierarchy but wanting Kennedy included in the move won’t have been anticipated.

Postecoglou arrived solo at Celtic but it seems like he wants to bring in a coach that he is already working with as he tried to turn Spurs around.

McGowan tends to be close to the action when it comes to behind the scenes issues at Celtic, in the Daily Mail he reports:

ANGE POSTECOGLOU has informed Celtic that he wants to become the next manager of Tottenham Hotspur.

And the Australian would like trusted Parkhead assistant John Kennedy to join him in north London.

The English Premier League side are set to make a formal approach for Postecoglou today.

He clinched Celtic’s eighth domestic Treble with a 3-1 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle in Saturday’s Scottish Cup final. And Mail Sport understands that on Saturday night the 57-year-old informed directors and colleagues, including major shareholder Dermot Desmond, of his desire to join Spurs.

A debrief meeting to discuss the Treble-winning season is scheduled for the football department staff today. It’s understood Postecoglou will not now attend.

Appointed in June 2021 on a 12-month rolling contract, he has pointedly refused to rule himself out of the running to succeed Antonio Conte after the London club failed to land previous targets Julian Nagelsmann and Arne Slot.

Spurs now hope to progress a deal after permission is granted and final discussions take place, with Postecoglou scheduled to go on holiday with his family on Tuesday. Celtic will now begin the task of compiling a list of candidates to be the next manager.

Celtic now need the issue resolved quickly, a drawn out saga doesn’t do anyone any favours. Having requested permission to speak to Spurs it would be quite a u-turn if Postecoglou was to them opt to stay on in Scotland.

There shouldn’t be a shortage of able candidates interested in a Champions League club with a young valuable squad but the fear is that without Postecoglou much of the standards that he has driven for in the last two years will disappear much like the regression when Neil Lennon took over from Brendan Rodgers.

‘Reported to be’, ‘set to’…he hasn’t even spoken to any other club as yet. If the rumour turns out to be correct then we can offer him our thanks and wish him well in the future. No-one associated with Celtic was sniping last week. The Celtic Family will still be here next week. Football life goes on and the only consistency is change.

If you listen to Mark Pirie it is a done deal one of the worst reporters at the the Daily Rangers if he is to leave so be it Celtic is bigger then any one ,a bit disappointed at his silence and his so called honesty but that is the life money talks as the song goes, but wishing him the best under these circumstances is not my genre but life goes on as long as it is with Lennon as he and Liewell seem to fit for a team that will drop the ball
