One major flaw is emerging from Ange Postecoglou’s comments over the weekend.

After the win over Inverness Caley Thistle to lift the Scottish Cup the Celtic boss was obliged to speak to Viaplay Sports, BBC television and radio as well as an all-in media conference for broadcasters, newspapers and other publishers.

Normally a separate session would be held with daily papers for Monday morning to project the story of the weekend on in a new direction.

7 minutes 30 seconds

Do you anticipate being here next season?

I anticipate enjoying this moment for the next 24, 48 hours, as long as I can before somebody drags me away and takes my attention away from enjoying something that has been hard-earned. The reality of it is there are probably players in that dressing room who won’t be here next year. That’s the nature of football. But I want them to enjoy it, I’m going to enjoy it and that’s all I’m going to focus on until somebody grabs me by the collar and tells me that I have to answer certain questions.

At the 10.30pm embargo time on Sunday, the Daily Mail, the Sun and Daily Record all reported that Postecoglou had informed Celtic that he wanted to speak to Spurs and take John Kennedy with him, the Record included Gavin Strachan in the package.

Celtic fans treat almost everything from those publishers with contempt but there are times when their stories add up. There is a consistency to the three versions which suggests that the story came from the highest levels inside Celtic Park. Someone who likes to protect and project his own image.

Even with all of that to consider it seems certain that Postecoglou did discuss his interest in moving to Spurs on Saturday night- he didn’t need 24 or 48 hours to enjoy the result from Hampden, the culmination of two years work.

The former Yokohama F Marinos boss will be well aware of the reaction to Brendan Rodgers sneaking off in the middle of the night, he tried his best to avoid that scenario and did, the season was completed with three trophies gratefully received by the fans.

We were spared the horrors of 2019 when the joys of a treble was strangled almost instantly by a discussion in the Hampden showers between the clubs highest ever paid employee and his favourite caretaker.

Should Brendan Rodgers ever be allowed to manage Celtic again

“Contracts and all those other factors just don’t enter my thinking. I’m very happy where I am and as long as the club want me to stay I’ll be around.”, Postecoglou told Australian outlet Sportsday.
    That right, mate?

The ALKIE is on his way back.

If they take the alkie back.. I’m finished with the football

How do you top a treble winning campaign ? You can’t ! You can equal it , but you can’t better it . Yes , you can do really well in Europe next season ,but if the board don’t want to spend £20 million on 4 top class players trying to do so , Ange’s impending decision regarding his immediate future becomes more obvious . I’m not saying that this is specifically what is happening , but would you be completely shocked if it was given Celtic FC ‘s biscuit tin mentality in the recent past ? I think there will be a whole lot of things taken into deep consideration whether Ange stays or goes !

Most Celtic fans were happy to accept Lennon back for a second spell as manager. Just trust in the process, the system.

    • Seppington says:

Most won’t be happy if he comes back again, will they? And when the system is “Pete’s way or no way” then no we won’t trust the system.

  • Duncan says:

Neil Lennon put 5 League Titles in the Trophy Cabinet as Celtic Manager.
So for a caretaker he’s done no bad eh?
The lack of respect for a guy who literally bled for the Club is quite astounding at times in Celtic blog land.
No Celtic Manager and especially the two mentioned had to operate under anywhere near the external pressures he had to endure.
If Ange goes we will replace him with a Manager with a similar approach.
He’s not reinvented football at Celtic ,he’s assembled a good side that’s all.
    As did the other two.

    • Seppington says:

We all appreciate all that Lenny has suffered for the cause but that doesn’t make him a good manager does it? He was the lazy appointment the first time, the second time should never have happened. If he gets a third shot….? Let’s just say if I was PL I’d start spending that heated driveway money on some bulletproof glass for the limo….

      • Duncan says:

I’m not suggesting he gets a third shot at it (I’m not so sure he’d want it after the backlash from the Covid 10 failure) but neither Ange nor Rodgers took a Celtic side further in Europe than Lenny the “lazy appointment “ bud.
There seems to be a clear lack of respect of what he actually achieved at Celtic.
Let me remind those who constantly deride and attack him personally what he achieved as a player and a Manager.

        Player :

5 League Titles (2 as Captain)
4 Scottish Cups (1 as Captain)
2 League Cups (1 as Captain)
1 UEFA Cup Runner up Medal

        Manager :
        5 League Titles
        4 Scottish Cups
        1 League Cup

All of which to a backdrop of Sectarian Assaults,Death Threats and threats to his family amd of course a Worldwide Pandemic that turned not only football on its head but also daily life on its head.
No Manager in fact no player has had to deal with anything like what Lenny had to endure.
So if you don’t mind please show some respect.
He deserves it more than most regarding Celtic.
Lawwell hung him out to dry during the 10 and let Neil take the full force of the wrath of the entitled among our ranks.
Rodgers bolted at the first sign of a lucrative deal mid Season and it looks like Ange will do likewise albeit having completed the job he set out to do.
Neil Lennon did his best and at a huge cost mentally and physically.
For that I will eternally be grateful for his commitment to the Celtic cause.
God bless him and his family.

        A true Celt.

Postecoglu was never dishonest until the last week. He was talking to Spurs for months and last week. He did not wait 20 minutes after the game on Saturday to throw his club tie in the bin and move on. Not ‘fully focused’ and ‘enjoying the moment, ‘savouring the success’ and what ever other lies he has tried to convince himself with. He was off as soon as Spurs were interested. He cares little for Celtic or Spurs, he is a professional and ambitious. There is no problem in this fair play to him and good luck but don’t patronise us and tell lies. He has now issued the usual statement ‘special place in my Heart blah, blah, blah’. Just leave and get a big calculator to count all the cash you are going to get when you are sacked in November. The problem is not characters like Ange it is the stupidity of the supporters for believing it. It is the EPL! The Holy Grail. My God Kieran Tierney couldn’t wait to get down to London and he is steeped in Celtic. We cannot compete. Ange is not a Celtic man. He owes us nothing except to just F Off and don’t look back. Don’t issue the ‘I will always love you’ garbage. We need a manager for 2 seasons. If he is successful he goes if he is not he goes. That is the deal. We need to wise up.
