No takers as delay hits Beale’s fund-raising role

Two months after Ross Wilson quit for Nottingham Forest there is no sign of a Sporting Director being appointed at Ibrox.

The entirely predictable names of Davie Weir, Christian Nerlinger and Craig Moore were quickly linked with the job with Carlos Bocanegra distancing himself from the job last week.

Working a Player Trading Model is the main requirement for Wilson’s successor but with Calvin Bassey, Nathan Patterson and Joe Aribo sinking without trace there are red flags against everyone in Micky Beale’s squad.

Wilson was unable to find any club prepared to pay money for Alfredo Morelos or Ryan Kent, his successor is about to walk into the same situation with Borna Barisic, John Lundstram and Kemar Roofe.

Beale has taken on the key role in Recruitment, checking up on former Chelsea starlets and other journeymen from the English Championship but after signing Sam Lammers it seems that the war-chest has been emptied

Fund-raising will be the first task of the new Sporting Director with the on-message Rangers Review reporting:

It’s understood that a headhunting agency is sourcing candidates for the job, with many individuals spoken to as part of a comprehensive search.

While a number of candidates have been identified, Rangers are some way off from making a final decision on who will join Michael Beale at the top of the club’s football food chain.

Whoever takes over the role will have an adapted set of responsibilities from those enjoyed by Ross Wilson who moved on to Nottingham Forest towards the end of last season.

Beale is very keen to take a much more proactive role in recruitment in comparison with previous boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst and has been operating as a defacto sporting director since Wilson’s departure.

Pre-season training starts at Murray Park on June 30 with a noticeable drop in quality with Morelos, Kent, Allan McGregor, Malik Tillman and Scott Arfield walking away.

You would think that any credible candidate won’t go ant further than an initial query:

    “What is the player budget?”

…which leaves only inexperienced / unsuitable candidates interested in the Sporting Director role,

which wouldn’t be the best match up with the inexperienced Beale.

Comprehensive Search = We’ve asked a lot of people who have told us to get lost

I think mick bealin is a bin lorry driver roaming Europe picking up all the brock (free agents) from clubs in the hope he can work a miracle. If he thinks he will win the league with these ex Chelsea academy rejects and a striker with 4 goals to his name in 2 seasons he is nuts.
