With their usual sense of sarcasm and irony Paddy Power have announced Ange Postecoglou’s retirement from winning silverware.

The Australian is expected to speak with Spurs this week with an inevitability that he will then take charge of Spurs, taking on the poisoned chalice that Antonio Conte warned about.

Spurs haven’t won a trophy since 2008, with many fans in revolt over Daniel Levy’s running of the business Postecoglou faces an incredible challenge to turn the club around.

After finishing eighth in the EPL a top four finish will be demanded next season- similar to the expectations of Liverpool and Chelsea who also won’t be playing in next season’s Champions League.

Today it has been reported that Harry Kane visited Madrid earlier this year, with Levy determined to extract maximum value for the England captain Postecoglou is likely to be kept in the dark about Kane’s future.

Manchester City’s domination of domestic trophies shows no sign of easing up, if Postecoglou can end the 15 year trophy wait of Spurs fans he will be hailed as a hero, until that happens fans will be wondering why Luis Enrique was overlooked with Barcelona and Spain on his CV.

Postecogolu doesn’t seem like the kind to hang around Tottenam for three years just to earn a retirement bonus. Granted that at fifty seven he could earn enough in that time to retire completely. But would that be what he wants?
Celtic must realise the market value of their World Record Treble winning manager and be willing to make it worth his while to stay!
Up ’til now there has been nothing concrete in the way of evidence that Spurs actually want to hire Postecogolu. It is all just speculation and paper-talk!
Brendan Rogers would’ on paper, be an equally likely candidate, but there has been little talk in that particular department!
Ange has created undisputed success in his first two seasons at Celtic. Why would he allow the momentum of that success to drop with a haphazard move to Spurs, who are perhaps best known for a film about two teenage girl fan-fanatics, signing a couple of World Cup winning Argentinians and losing a UCL Final in recent years. Their last manager also left in acrimonious circumstances.
Postecoglu has a real CV record of managerial success. Why would he really sacrifice all that for probably the most poisoned chalice job in Britain?

apparently Luis Enrique is not even half interested in the job , ange has no competition so to speak , i hope he just leaves now and save us the platitudes and lovey dovey talk , least said soonest mended

Agreed. It’s Rodger$ all over again. He had the perfect opportunity to announce that he was about to leave with good grace after the final, or outside Celtic Park, but his evasiveness and duplicity has turned me right off. If his starting record at Celtic is the same at Spurs he’ll be sacked after 4 games.

  • m mclaughlin says:

He has not left or even talked to Spurs or so he says maybe true maybe not until then he is still our manager until then who knows, if he does go he will lose a lot of respect worse than Rodgers

  • Paddybhoy67 says:

Is it pure coincidence that Peter Lawwell is in and Postecoglou is out?

    • mike mclaughlin says:

no par for the course it is who they bring in to replace him ,i sense the biscuit tin approach
      to commence again hope not
