The Scott Bain rumour

The Etims diary made a very timely return yesterday, providing a highly interesting round up on recent events. Published early on Tuesday morning it surfaced just before Celtic and Spurs were applying their spin on Ange Postecoglou’s move to London.

Running against the grain and with no need to pander to any particular viewpoint, Etims offered a detached and independent take on the events of the last month with supporters as usual left in the dark to work things out.

There was a noticeable drop in intensity about how Celtic struggled through three matches after clinching the title, it didn’t look like an Ange Postecoglou side with the events since Hampden on Saturday night bearing that out.

Only the most naive will believe the version of events that the Celtic hierarchy were taken by surprise on Saturday evening with Spurs concluding a deal within three days.

Etims claims:

Some suggestions of interference from board level caused him to hesitate on a new, improved contract, and that hesitation later turned to rejection.

The tipping point appears to be the new contract handed to Scott Bain, who Postecoglou promptly played against Hibs, who then promptly flung a couple into his own net.

Postecoglou didn’t want to keep Bain, largely because he isn’t very good, and in that one game sort of proved his point. Let’s be honest, we were all surprised when Bain signed a new deal.

There has never been any official Celtic announcement on Bain’s new contract which seems to have come out on May 18 at the Hydro evening for Scott Brown and Mikel Lustig,

Late that night in the Stephen McGowan of the Daily Mail reported:

CELTIC goalkeeper Scott Bain has put pen to paper on a three-year contract extension.

Understudy to Joe Hart, the 31-year-old was under contract at Parkhead until next summer.

Bain was tipped to leave the club after the signing of Benjamin Siegrist last summer, but the Swiss keeper has endured a difficult first season with injuries.

Now the three-times-capped Scotland keeper has done enough to convince Ange Postecoglou he deserves a new deal.

Bain signed a new contract in January 2022 but that didn’t put Postecoglou off from signing Siegrist a few months later as a free agent.

With Joe Hart turning 36 in April and two barely used goalkeepers at the club the next manager is likely to look closely at transfer options for that position.

Pretty simple now we know Ange deal with spurs .

Was a rolling contract initially, then after sorting out a royal mess and brought home a double all they offered was a rolling contract, bit of a slap in the face tbh so trimboli kept an eye out for possible opportunities.

Deja vu came along for Ange except it was the goalie not a winger ,spurs candidates fell over Ange is left standing and gets his 4 year deal.

Fact is once again lawell, Desmond and the board fucked this and instead of that slap in the face 2nd year roller they came calling with a 3 yr 3million near the end of this season when the Spurs role became a thing but as usual to little to late.

Until DD and both Lawells depart it will always be thus. Just ask why did McKay not hang around.

E Tims painting a totally different picture this morning, and giving credit to the board, (which is very unusual for Ralph and co), as well as Callum and Jamesie.
    Ange getting pelters.
What or who to believe? Anyway it’s over so time to move on. Onwards and upwards.
