Ismaila Soro is reported to be attracting interest from Bordeaux and Panathinaikos.

Whether they can match or better his current Celtic salary remains to be seen but whoever comes in as manager it is hard to see them seeing a future for the Ivorian midfielder.

Soro has just completed a season on loan at Portuguese side Arouca where he made 27 appearances, picked up seven yellow cards and failed to score a goal.

Picking up on interest from France and Greece, The Sun reports:

He still has a year left on his contract and would have been allowed to leave under former boss Ange Postecoglou, but he may yet be handed a fresh start under new management.

And French second tier side Bordeaux and Greek giants Panathinaikos have both registered an interest in landing the 25-year-old, who last played for Celtic in February 2022 in a two-minute cameo role as a sub against Rangers in a 3-0 win.

Former Celtic boss Neil Lennon splashed out £2million to sign Soro from Israeli outfit Bnei Yehuda in 2020 and he initially made an impressive impact.

However, under Ange Postecoglou, he became an outcast and last started a game in the dead rubber Europa League game against Real Betis in December 2021.

Under Ange Postecoglou Celtic significantly strengthened in midfield with Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley backed up by Aaron Mooy and Tomoki Iwata, those moves pushed David Turnbull down the pecking order with James McCarthy virtually disappearing.

After a brief spell in December 2020 coming into the first team alongside Turnbull it became increasingly clear that Soro was unlikely make the grade at Celtic.

Would be good for the lad to move on, another player signed by Lawell and ruined by Lennon.
