Mikey Johnston has described the imminent return of Brendan Rodgers to Celtic as unreal.

The winger is currently with the Irish international squad with his future uncertain after a season out on loan at Vitoria Guimaeres.

In May 2017 Rodgers handed debuts to Johnston and Tony Ralston after the SPFL title was won with very few survivors from the Invincible season still around.

Celtic fans are waiting on the official announcement for their new manager with Johnston telling the Irish Mirror about his hopes for next season:

He gave me my debut and every player will love the guy who gave them their debut.

But he’s a great manager and if he came back to Celtic he would be unreal. I’d like to give it another go.

It’s the club I’ve always supported, I’d like to give it another go but we just have to wait and see what happens.

Whatever I do next year I want to play every game but I’m not sure yet (where I’ll be). It’s a clean slate at Celtic as there will be a new manager, so I could be back

Johnston is under contract with Celtic for two more seasons which makes this summer critical for his future.

Celtic must include four Academy trained players in their Champions League squad, after Callum McGregor and James Forrest they start to run short with Ralston and Stephen Welsh getting very limited game time last season.

Under Ange Postecoglou supply from wingers was an essential part of Celtic’s play with a regular switch of wingers taking place on the hour mark.

Due to his international involvement Johnston will miss the start of pre-season training but should be in the squad for the pre-season matches in Japan and South Korea.

Johnson has to learn to lift his head and be aware of his teammates and the opposition goals. His final ball is always wasted. The lucky assist for Ireland was a result of shooting when he should have passed it.
What are the Celtic coaches doing if not identifying weaknesses like this.

Cheer up Charlie! Or is your glass always half-empty?

    • the maister says:

The Bhoy has been out on loan in Italy for the last year Charlie. That is even beyond the scope of the Celtic coaches for to keep tabs on him. Give the boy a break, eh!?

  • Charlie Green says:

Guys you need to ask yourselves “Why is he out on loan?” when he has so much natural ability.

  • Charlie Green says:

He is the same age as Jota, maister. Look at the difference in the final ball.

    • the maister says:

You’s just don’t like him Charlie. But he has ability and he could be an asset for Celtic!

  • Charlie Green says:

Not so, maister and wish him and your good self all the best.

  • the maister says:

I’ll agree with you there, then!

Be great to see Mikey get a chance ,he was plagued by injuries in his last season ,on loan he stayed injury free and played big part in his games , he has the quality I,d love to see him get chance to prove he belongs in the hoops, and he will play for the top with pride
