Micky Beale’s transfer war-chest has been given a £318,000 boost thanks to Borna Barisic.

The accident prone full-back played in the Round of 16 tie against Japan which was won on penalties with Croatia going on to reach the World Cup semi-finals in Qatar.

Finishing third resulted in a $27US pay-out for Croatia to split across their squad with Celtic getting the same cut for Josip Juranovic playing in every match.

Barisic has a year left to run on his Ibrox contract, it looks like the FIFA payment will exceed any transfer fee that they’ll get for the defender with all of the signs being that Barisic will walk away for free next summer just like Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent.

BBC Scotland reports:

Fifa paid Scottish Premiership clubs a combined £16.6m for the release of players to the World Cup, with Celtic making the most with almost £511,000.

Rangers made more than £318,000 with Hearts taking in more than £250,000.

Dundee United, subsequently relegated, were paid approaching £187,000, and Hibernian made almost £177,000. St Johnstone’s takings neared £160,000 and St Mirren’s almost £59,000.

Countries knocked out in the group stage were given $9m US with nations reaching the last 16 paid $13m US. Winners Argentina were paid $42m US to split among the clubs that supplied players.
