Hopes, rumours and wishful thinking that Carlos Borges could be joining Celtic are about to be ended by a £14m move to West Ham.
Almost as soon Jota was sold to Al Ittihad some fans were highlighting the Manchester City reserve as a possible replacement.
Borges has yet to play a senior match at any level but coming from the Sporting Lisbon Academy and with prolific stats in the EPL 2 he hasn’t been short of admirers.
Celtic have long standing links with Manchester City dating back to John Guidetti and Dedryk Boyata but £14m for a teenager would be a risk too far with the accompanying salary package demands unlikely to fit inside the Celtic template.

Verbal agreement in place for 2004 winger, fee around £14m.
As always, Man City will include buy back clause into the deal.

Marco Tilio for £1.5m from Melbourne City, part of the City Football Group is more in line with Celtic’s transfer policy with fans getting impatient to see first team ready players brought in.
Last season Ange Postecoglou was able to spend £20 on transfer fees, with the Jota deal adding to funds already allocated Celtic fans are expecting to see fresh additions with the SPFL opener against Ross County just 16 days away- followed by a trip to face Aberdeen.
Seems like everyone is eager to spend Celtic’s money.
Don’t worry there’s plenty of time for transfers – Lawwells back.
