With three weeks to go Chris Sutton is expecting a couple of marquee signings to arrive at Celtic.

In 21 days Ross County will arrive at Celtic Park for the SPFL opener, Brendan Rodgers’ competitive return with the target being to win a third consecutive title.

Since Rodgers took the job on he has lost Jota and Aaron Mooy, one would be a certainty to start any match while Mooy got himself ahead of Matt O’Riley for a first team place at a significant stage of last season.

With doubts over the fitness of Alistair Johnston and Cameron Carter-Vickers there are a few gaps in the side that stormed to a treble last season to put the hoops in the driving seat domestically.

Celtic play their first public friendly match on Wednesday with Sutton explaining to Daily Record readers the strategy that should bring some real big-hitters to the east end of Glasgow:

Postecoglou talked about it last season. You buy a £2m player and turn him into a £10m player. Then you get a £5m one and get him to be worth £20m.

That’s where Rodgers is right now. He needs to add quality that’s at a higher level of the ones who are there now if he wants to make more of an impact in the Champions League.

It’s tricky, because the players they will be chasing will be wanted by other clubs as well. That might call for some patience – but there’s no such thing as patience in football.

I’d be stunned if Celtic didn’t have a couple of marquee signings on board for the start of the season. But they do need to get a move on.

The transfer window remains open till the end of August with Celtic’s first match in September coming at Ibrox, quickly followed by Champions League ties.

No panic yet. But needs to make a move with players leaving and players coming in. Need some european quality.
Korean players technically gifted but nit a lit of steel. No real european pedigree.

Chris Sutton states the bleeding obvious. Writing in the Daily Ranger to appease their Rangers supporting clientele who are now saying Celtic are weaker and we will win the league. Honestly, the transparent state of Scottish Sports journalism. I suppose Chris needs to pay his debts.

Correction, Journalism WORLDWIDE is a thing of the past… anyone who listens to or reads it….. and BELIEVES it…. is why the world is a MESS!!!

Its obvious we are weaker as Jota and Mooy are both away and we haven’t replaced them yet.

I think we really need to get a move on. Our rivals have signed a decent CF and a few others. We need CH CF DM and LB in my view.

  • Bob (original) says:

On the face of it, our squad – as it is just now – ‘should’ still be too strong domestically.

But, of course, we want to have the best possible preparation for the CL games,

so getting in a few, higher quality players ASAP will help their integration into the

team before the big games arrive.

Just hope to God we don’t have a return to the ‘bad old days’,

where we sign players 10 minutes before the Transfer Window slams shut… 🙁
