Michael Nicholson could be put on the spot over the issue of away tickets for the Glasgow Derby.

Earlier today The Sun reported that Celtic wouldn’t be taking up an allocation of 700 tickets for Ibrox on September 3 with safety concerns given for the decision.

Last season both clubs seemed to be in agreement about having no away fans for the final two SPFL Derbies of last season but that could be challenged when Celtic host the fixture in December.

Picking up on the story, the Daily Record reports:

With the Ibrox club having more than 45,000 season book holders, there’s no chance of that happening and their preference is 700 for each team. And it is believed they are insisting that having made the offer of 700 tickets to Celtic – irrespective of it being accepted – they should be given the opportunity to take the same number of fans to Parkhead for the New Year Old Firm derby and are keen to do so.

Rangers could complain to the SPFL if that offer is not forthcoming. Celtic are understood to have held talks with leading supporters’ groups, who are believed to be backing their stance.

Both sets of fans have claimed they’ve been pelted by missiles and forced to turn up hours before kick-off at the away venue since allocations were drastically reduced.

Should Celtic accept 700 tickets for Ibrox?

No way, safety can't be gambled on

At Celtic Park the away support is relatively isolated in a corner of the Lisbon Lions Stand whereas at Ibrox two areas of no-mans land is required with home fans above the away support to the right and left.

With no SPFL rules on the number of tickets that away clubs have to be offered it is unlikely that Neil Doncaster will step in to resolve the issue.

SFA rules mean that away clubs must get 20% of the tickets for Scottish Cup ties, last season Celtic had 3,500 fans inside Tynecastle in March for a Scottish Cup tie but just over 1,200 in May for the SPFL title clincher.

Tell them to BOLT and make sure we stand our ground on this.

  • Cheezydee says:

So as much as *rangers have decided to give Celtic 700, Celtic could theoretically decide to give 5? Or maybe 55? Or 1, or 67!? Cos if they’re saying they should be entitled to get what they offered, we offer the traditional amount?

  • Scud Missile says:

The interesting part of the season is how will Sky react to the klan fans not wanting big Chris inside the BIGOT DOME for games, and the klan klub itself backing this up with no guarantee for his safety.
Just what type of SPIN will be put on this from media or Sky itself?

  • Scud Missile says:

Slippy G now has a new gig and is looking for players for his squad, but he has totally overlooked the ibrox players he took there and has decided to pick up a couple of players who played with Celtic.
So just what does that say about the DROSS he has left behind?

    • the maister says:

Don’t forget Slippy won the League at ipox and Celtic won the middle of a big man’s lifebelt that season!

  • Treble-T says:

Offer them 5 tickets and tell them they need to be seated 2 hours before kickoff

Finally we come to it: appeasement ment all the way along the line from every club including Celtic has led to this.
Celtic should make a strong statement listing all of yhe incidents that have occurred in this fixture in the last six or seven years. Starting with Scott Brown being confronted on the park, Sinclair being racially abused, objects thrown at various players, staff injured by objects, glass found in goal area culminating in fans being strick by objects since the reduction of the allocation.
Contrast that with the persistent damage done to toilets at Celtic Park which the Ibrox club consistently refused to condemn never mind pay for even when their own fans filmed it.
Funny when this damage was being done it was rumoured that Celtic were going to cut the allocation and the media all said we couldn’t do it yet not one of them condemned the Ibrox club when they did it.
In Celtic’s statement we should say the reduction of allocation has proved too dangerous for our fans to attend as listed and the Ibrox club has persistently refused to accept our concerns. We would accept, with reluctance, a European allocation but we will not put our supporters in danger and therefore there will be no reciprocated allocation until our safety concerns are addressed .
    Enough is enough.

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

One way to sicken them would be 1888 or 1967 tickets or 116 to Mark our silverware count as the most successful in Scotland and The UK !

But the truth is I’d not want EVEN ONE of them near our Paradise…

Even with none in the stands they’d be quite a few from ‘G’ Division Glasgow Polis and pretty much ba’ hairs worth of them having 100% there given The Mainstream Scottish Media’s Laptop Loyalist Supporters !

  • Stevie says:

Just go the same route as them. Cannae guarantee their safety..Simple.

  • Davie says:

No Celtic should not bend to the dictators of Scottish football.
This was started by The Rangers and needs them to grant full allocation of tickets to Celtic, until then it’s home support only.
As for Old Firm Derby, that’s relevant to games against a deceased team.
Celtic v The Rangers is just a Glagow Derby, same as Celtic v Partick Thistle or Queens Park.
