Brendan Rodgers has insisted that he is back at Celtic to deliver trophies rather than wallow in nostalgia.

The Irishman replaced Ange Postecoglou last month just over four years after his unexpected mid-season move to Leicester City.

That decision unleashed a lot of emotion and hostility but after the departure of Postecoglou there was a greater realisation among supporters that managers come and go with new challenges and massive wage hikes almost impossible to compete with.

Rodgers could have enjoyed the full summer in Mallorca virtually certain to pick up an EPL job before Christmas but opted to come back into the firing line of Scottish football.

He does so putting his 100% domestic record at risk but after winning seven trophies first time around his heart is set on more as he told The Sun:

Coming back has just felt like coming back to family again. It doesn’t feel like going to a football club, as such. I’m back here with people who understand.

I also come back here — because I left, and because of the success I had the last time — with a greater pressure and a greater expectation but that’s one of the reasons I did come back, to take that on.

Like I’ve said previously, there was absolutely nothing nostalgic about me returning. It was about coming here to win, and to win in a way which I want to play the game.

Celtic open their SPFL campaign at home to Ross County on Saturday followed by trips to Aberdeen and then Kilmarnock in the Viaplay Cup second round.

Brendan Rodgers was, is and always will be part of the Celtic Family, like every supporter is. Moreover, he has the acumen as manager to make significant and eventual progress in Europe, given favourable time and circumstances. We know we can’t reasonably win the CL soon ergo there’s some learning to be had on the field. It’s early days but seems like the right track.
