Gustaf Lagerbielke is on his way to Glasgow to complete his transfer to Celtic.

With Carl Starfelt completing his move to Celta Vigo on Thursday there was an urgent need to bring in a replacement.

Lagerbielke has helped Elfsborg into top place in the Allsvenskan but looks like switching his focus to Celtic and delivering the SPFL title for Brendan Rodgers.

Central defence has seen something of a rush of Celtic transfer activity over the last month starting with the £4.2m signing of Maik Nawrocki from Legia Warsaw.

After missing the friendly against Wolves the Polish u-21 internationalist lined up alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers at home to Athletic Bilbao.

When that pairing was announced to play against Ross County it looked like something was happening with Starfelt which was confirmed by Rodgers last Saturday during his media interviews.

If all goes well with Lagerbielke’s medical he should be in the Celtic squad for the Viaplay Cup tie at Kilmarnock although a debut on the artificial surface is probably unlikely.

Can’t think on a more mis-matched couple than Jacynta and Carl.
He’s fair. He’s dark. He’s six foot four. She’s five foot nothin’.
She plays hers in Portugal. Him in Spain.
    Still, they must see something!
    Good Luck!

Hey. Come and play for us and commit your future to Celtic. It’s a great, professional Club with pedigree . And we will really look after you here!
Our centre-half of eighty seven games in two seasons has just run off with one of the womens team to Spain or Portugal after one competitive match!
So, five trophies in two seasons didn’t really mean that much to him after all!
Only on your watch Mr. Lawwell. Only on your watch!

  • John S says:

Long-term – but if he ‘hits the ground running’ so much the better.

  • the maister says:

So, one game in to the new season, the trusted centre-half runs away with the centre forward from the womens team.
What was the Chief Executive Officer doing?
We will soon be a floating shame, Mr. Lawwell. Mark my words!
But you don’t give a monkeys, nor do you understand your role at the football Club!
