Stephen McGowan has hinted that Celtic could make late transfer moves for Kieran Tierney and Daniel Podence.

The Daily Mail reporter has a long establisher track record for being very close to Celtic’s move in and out of the transfer market.

Tierney and Podence both failed to make the matchday squad when their clubs kicked off the EPL campaign last weekend although injury could see the Arsenal defender back involved against Crystal Palace on Monday night.

After reporting significantly increased turnover to the Stock Market Celtic are on course for another transfer window surplus while the first team squad is looking much thinner on quality as Brendan Rodgers prepares for Kilmarnock on Sunday.

There appears to be scope for some big spending to take place, in the Daily Mail McGowan suggests that the club credit card is poised for use:

When Brendan Rodgers returned to Celtic this summer, fans braced themselves for a sprinkling of  English Premier League glamour — and they might still get  their wish.

The likes of Daniel Podence of Wolves and Kieran Tierney at Arsenal are now finding themselves surplus to requirements.

And, while selling clubs talk tough when the phone starts to ring, chief execs left hanging on the line see the flannel.

Come the final days, teams up and down the country will be slashing prices faster than the administrators of Wilko. There’s a good case for Celtic joining the queue with a credit card in hand.

Jota has jumped on the Saudi gravy train. Experienced defender Carl Starfelt moved to Celta Vigo.  Injuries to Oh Hyeon-Gyu and Alistair Johnston have exposed a lack of depth in key positions.

When Cameron Carter-Vickers and Reo Hatate limped out of  Pittodrie last weekend, the thought of who might replace them at Ibrox on September 3 had supporters breaking out in a cold sweat. With the futures of Hatate and Liel Abada up in the air, Celtic are a Kyogo shoulder injury away from cracked crests on the back pages.

Much of the scouting and background work will already have been completed for new signings but with less than a fortnight to go the accelerator will have to be pressed to get deals over the line.

    Sounds like a plan.
Said last season a wee cheap option for a bit of dig in middle. Wee Devlin from baby huns.

There’s no ‘cold sweat’ about facing duds and freebies.

McGowan? Probably Lawwell’s mouthpiece. Expect mostly crap.
Daily Mail? A filthy piece of Tory bog roll, never in its life a friend of Celtic FC.
    Get both of them TF!
We NEED another ‘keeper, more than ANY other position and surely TF that’s clear to Brendan. It’s certainly clear to our supporters. Livakovic, if he’s still available!
KT will ALWAYS be a favourite player of mine and a Tim at heart but he made his move and I’d leave it at that.
Podence would be costly and I’m not sure we need more wingers/forwards.
JUST A ‘KEEPER PLEASE! PRETTY PLEASE!

I think the Celtic supporters are being taken for mugs.
    Again!
Celtic have been successful and now we are down sizing.
That way the plc is depreciated and Desmond receives a maximum yield.
    Simple really!
