Celtic are reported to be ‘weighing up a move’ for Mathias Kvistgaarden of Brondby.

The Danish club does have a good reputation for developing young players but it seems unlikely that the 21-year-old striker is poised for a move to Glasgow.

Celtic have done well in the past from signing Swedish and Norwegian players but have a more patchy record with Danes with Erik Sviatchenko and Morten Rasmussen the last players signed from Denmark. Although Matt O’Riley is a Danish u-21 cap all of his football, pre Celtic was spent in England.

The Sun reports:

CELTIC are weighing up a move for Danish Under-21 striker Mathias Kvistgaarden.

Boss Brendan Rodgers wants an extra attacker in before the window closes and SunSport understands the Brondby frontman is being considered.

Kvistgaarden, 21, netted ten goals in 37 appearances for the Superliga side last term and has a goal and two assists in four games in the current campaign.

The striker signed an extended deal in March to keep him with the Danes until 2027.

Capped at 18s, 19s and 21s, he hit the bar in a 1-1 draw with Scotland’s Under-21s last year, playing alongside current Celts favourite Matt O’Riley.

The tone of the report doesn’t suggest that Celtic are on the verge of putting in an offer before the transfer window closes in 11 days time.

Kvistgaarden will be one of any number of emerging strikers that Celtic will be aware of, will maybe have scouted a couple of times and are watching how he develops.

Brendan Rodgers’ first four signings were all under 22 years of age showing some promise and potential, adding them to a treble winning squad without any back up reserve squad looks to be enough with the manager one month away from being back in the Champions League.

If Kvistgaarden improves his scoring rate over the remainder of the season he could become a January target but it is highly unlikely that he’ll be getting added to Celtic’s Champions League squad.
