Kirk Broadfoot has spilled the beans on Scottish referees with surprisingly candid comments on David Dickinson.

After a second Morton penalty claim within two minutes forced the match referee to consult the VAR monitor Dickinson reluctantly pointed to the penalty spot with Grant Gillespie putting the visitors in front.

Six minutes later Dickinson was on more familiar ground as he awarded the homeside a penalty for shirt pulling by Broadfoot.

There is an element of shirt pulling at every set-piece delivered into the penalty box, on yesterday’s ruling Dickinson will be awarding half a dozen in every match.

Broadfoot told the Daily Record:

I don’t even know why the first one had to go VAR – it’s a stonewall penalty. For the second one, even the Rangers boys didn’t know what it was for. They were asking if it was for a handball.

As soon as he goes to the screen, it’s a pen. It was inevitable. We knew he was going to try and even it up. Nobody claimed it, he’s not getting the ball. The ref says I stopped him from trying to score a goal. Is this what we’re going to give penalties for now? It’s ridiculous. I’m glad we don’t have VAR in the Championship.

Dickinson and is colleagues are on a 56 match run without awarding a penalty against the Ibrox club. David Munro was on VAR duty yesterday.

When it last happened Stephen Glass and Giovani van Bronckhorst were in the dug-outs as Lewis Ferguson netted past Allan McGregor.

Broadfoot is of course an expert on dubious penalties to clubs from Ibrox, in October 2010 Willie Collum awarded a penalty against Celtic with his back to play based on Broadfoot squealing.

That decision set Collum up for more than a decade of top match fees, very generous expenses and lucrative European appointments. Dickinson and others know the template to success with the SFA.

So he has a brass neck to go with the equine face…

The first time in almost a year a domestic penalty is awarded against them and it happens to be in a League Cup tie at home to wee Morton in a game everyone thought they’d run up a cricket score…. and they still had to cancel it out for fear it might affect the outcome. Yep, the lad deserves credit, this is one hell of a team Ian Beale has assembled.

Lay off the glue pal “one hell of a team would not rely on referee favours just like you have had the benefits of since the rangers 1872 died and then the new 2012 rangers were formed just you keep on telling yourselves this “as time will tell on the hell of a a team your ranting on about as it seems more and more players are coming forward on the cheating by rangers and their favourite referees life must be good down the lodge.

  • Scud Missile says:

Lol aye Wullie got the big gigs after that including European matches, but none of these refs today will be picking fees at top level European and FIFA match fees as they are no longer considered good enough to officiate their games.
Lol there are refs from nickel&dime countries and leagues getting picked to officiate the games befoe these CHEATING KLOWNS.

  • Seppington says:

“We knew he was going to try and even it up…”

Aye, you and every other fan in the country because “evening up fur ra bearz” is part of the ref’s job description in Scotland.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Kirk Longface is dragged in front of some SFA committee and given a stern talking to for telling the truth….

  • Zeddy says:

I actually breathed a sigh of relief when I saw this article this morning . I watched their penalty incident about 20 times last night to see what I was missing. On the ball off the ball, rangers player pushed or diving, elbows, punches, I’m not even sure he’s close enough to pull his shirt it looks like the angle to me. I didn’t see a thing other than what I can now confidently describe as corrupt refereeing..

This has Groundhog Day written all over it as I posted previously Roy will be gone before the season is out,the same situation with McVittie the biscuit tin man in charge and telling Roy who to buy and how much to spend on the player.
We have all seen this movie before and we know how it ends.
All that money made from last season a think touching or close to £100 million, then add on Jota money season book money for this season and champions league cash, and we are shopping in the same bargain bucket basement sevco get their players from.
The more saved on big money signings the more the board have to divvy up on bonuses for them come the end of the season, just look how well the Mr McVittie did out of this the last time he called the shots.
Mr McVittie is back as he was missing his easy money £3 million a year plus bonuses now who would give that up and walk away.
McVittie is back for his big bucks and it’s the fans who are filling his pockets while he laughs all the way to the bank.

Bloody Hell ! – Amazing honesty from a supposedly ‘one of them’ – and full credit to him for it !

I’m sure there will be ultra moon howling threads on their blogs dedicated to this subject alone –

Hope he has bodyguards if he fancies a beer in a Sevco boozer anytime soon…

But huge credit to Mr Broadfoot for his very refreshing honesty !

  • Bob (original) says:

Suppose that ‘highly unexpected’ penalty given against sevco at Ibrox

serves a purpose: it stops that statistically significant deviation [or cheating]

which saw sevco on an amazing run of NOT conceding a penalty at home.

The SFA & The Scottish Referees’ Association can now relax,

knowing that a repeat at Ibrox will not happen for the rest of the season.

The incompetent / corrupt [?] SFA has done absolutely nothing to improve VAR,

or match officiating over the summer.

  • John Copeland says:

Broadfoot’s comments have just clarified what I and hundreds of thousands of others have been thinking about Scottish football officialdom for years …. It’s Bent … It’s corrupt to the core ! When a senior player playing in the game today comes out with a statement saying ‘Morton players just knew the referee was giving the Rangers a penalty to try to even things up ,’ the governing bodies at the very least should leave no stone unturned in their quest to get to the root cause of this serious accusation of illegal match practices from referees . Here’s a thought Mr SMSM scoop … do your job for once and investigate what the ex the Rangers employee has said …. I’ll bet you don’t !

  • the maister says:

    English commentators
    “Evening It Up”
also, at the World Cup (Womens) Final.
Bad-naming the Spanish Head Coach. Telling you the players who should be playing for Spain. (One plays for Manchester United)!
Those comments wouldn’t have been aired if Spain had not been the better team and won the Title!
    English Entitlement? Definitely!
But also not good enough to win the Tournament!

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

No even up scenario by Muir and VAR Robertson today (Sun 20/8) and never was there ever going to be…

Haskabanovic goes down first time in the box and no penalty – no surprise there…

Haskabanovic goes down the second time in the box and no penalty – and it’s a stonewaller – and not given or even looked at…

How do I know this when not watching the game ?

Because I deliberately looked at a Sevco blog and they are saying a plenty that it was a clear penalty, so bloody hell if they’re saying it then it must be at least semi true…

I don’t expect the corrupt Scottish Football Media to discuss it or ask Brendan (not that I’d be listening or reading)

I FULLY EXPECT that Brendan as the manager of Celtic FC will be screaming from the rooftops about this…
