Brendan Rodgers will give it 24 hours before he comes to conclusions about Celtic’s Viaplay Cup defeat to Kilmarnock.
It was a feeble defence of the trophy that had been won in exciting fashion for two seasons running.
Asked about reasons for the result Rodgers instantly highlighted the pitch. Playing on plastic is a horrendous experience but last season Ange Postecoglou’s side won 5-0 and 4-1 at Rugby Park.
Today there was barely a chance created with the Kilmarnock goalkeeper expertly protected.

I think that it has always been about quality, I’ve said that before. The team needs match-winners, it needs quality. So that is hopefully something that we can do in the next 10/11 days.
Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt, Reo Hatate, Aaron Mooy and Jota were missing today from the side that won the Viaplay Cup in February.
As the match wore on Celtic seemed incapable of changing their style of play or forcing any real chances, it was an afternoon where they could have played on for hours without threatening a goal.
On Saturday Celtic host St Johnstone in the SPFL but it will be transfer activity that fans will be looking out for during the week.
Peter left and the club progressed, Peter comes back and the team goes backwards. Time to remove Peter the problem from the equation Dermott!
We were very poor today. However the goal would not have come had Muir and VAR done their jobs. Armstrong’s deliberate elbow on Taylor was a definite red card. How nothing was given beggars belief. We go down to ten men and they score. Job done for the Huns in black.
Lol Roy makes a plea to Mr McVittie for players oh dear, that was dreadful today. To think we laughed at sevco getting turned over at the same venue a couple of week back.
The women that took part in the World Cup over the last couple of weeks would put these players to shame, not one player can take a corner kick or free kick.
I do hope the Green Brigade step up their protests because this team is actually looking at taking sevco’s title from them as the worst team ever to show up in the champions league.
We can’t score a goal against Killie then what chance against proper quality European teams like PSV, Man City,Barca and Real Madrid and the others.
We have got a right good SCUDDING written all over er us,and get your cash on 5, 6 and 7 nil drubbings.
We ain’t winning Jackshit this season with this team and the fact Roy is away begging to Mr McVittie for proper money to sign players, well you will have a better chance of a rocking horse doing a Turkish delight or seeing Lord Lucan before anymore cash is spent.
Oh and whatever FLACK is coming our way through the media be that Spew Heevins or the BOOZE JOCKEY Jackass Jackson we deserve every last word of that.
BYE to the league cup for this season and BYE to Scottish Cup and DEFINITELY BYE TO LEAGUE.
BOOM ? over and out.
11 days to bring this clearly weakened squad nearer to what it was last season. Not holding my breath ,especially since Brendan enlightened us on Friday that he is working with what he’s given.
Lawwell 1 Rodgers 0. Only one of them will be grinning like a Cheshire cat tonight.
In the great scheme of things:
feeble performance but not too concerned getting punted out the LC.
OK, so no Treble pressure.
BR’s success will – IMO – be measured by securing at least 3rd place in the CL Group Stage – and retaining the SPL title.
We knew we needed players before today’s game: maybe the result will simply
accelerate that process?
Team did look like strangers today – and no real fight either, which was puzzling.
Hopefully, just a blip – and would rather have a wake-up call now, rather than later
in the season.
Keep taking the sevco games, Bob!
“Matchwinners”, “Quality”?
What does he think Abada, Kyogo and Maeda are, Travelling Salesmen?
You have got to be kidding with this outfit. Rodgers has no authority over these players. They will not respect him. The aspect of his being
“Born Into The Celtic Family”
is lost on players who have spent all their live living outside the British Isles. They don’t get it and they will be confused.
It is back to
“Boom And Bust”
because that is how Desmond gets his dough!
Editor: I suspect that Rodgers had Jotam CCV, Hatate and Johnston in his thoughts when he mentioned matchwinners, not Abada, Kyogo and Maeda.
But Abada, Kyogo and Maeda won a good few games between them under previous Management!
