Leicestershire Live! has run a bizarre story about why Kasper Schmeichel turned down Celtic.

The 163 word report covers everything except Celtic and Brendan Rodgers.

Leicestershire Live! is one of the many Reach Group titles hoping to tap into the local news market as print sales of their flagship publications such as the Daily Record and The Express fall off a cliff.

Tapping into Google Insights and Analytics will no doubt highlight the popularity of any stories involving Celtic with the team at Leicestershire Live! taking things to extremes.

When news emerged on Friday that Schmeichel had been released by Nice some desperate publishers and social media accounts instantly linked him with a move to Celtic.

Those stories certainly proved popular despite having zero substance.

Following on from that in the graveyard that is international week Leicestershire Live! reports:

Kasper Schmeichel has joined Anderlecht after leaving Nice, having been linked with a reunion with Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.

The former Leicester City goalkeeper has signed a one-year deal with the Belgian giants and his contract includes the option of an extra year.

After speaking with (chief executive) Jesper (Fredberg) and (manager) Brian (Riemer), I was very excited about the project that they’re putting in place,” said Schmeichel.

Anderlecht is just a massive club and former teammates from different places have always talked so highly and warmly of this place. It was something that I really wanted to become part of.”

Fredberg said: “Although we are happy with the current squad, this was an exceptional opportunity to bring in a goalkeeper with so much experience and know-how.

The signing of Kasper Schmeichel fits our desire to have top competition in all positions.

Kasper can be of enormous value to this club with his experience, on and off the pitch.”

Joe Hart is in his third season as Celtic goalkeeper and still too sharp and experienced for any of the domestic competition as he proved once again on Sunday at Ibrox.
