Jurgen Klinsmann has been discussing the twin challenges that his Korean players face at Celtic.

During the summer Oh Hyeon-gyu was joined by Hyun-Jun Yang and Hyeok-Kyu Kwon as Celtic tapped deeper into the Korean market.

This week Oh will be with Klinsmann for friendly matches against Wales and Saudi Arabia while his two Korean team-mates continue to adapt to life in Scotland and the expectations of a Celtic player.

Getting into Brendan Rodgers’ matchday squad is a big achievement for players new to the European game while off the pitch the challenges are constant as they adapt to a lifestyle far removed from what they were experiencing until they left Korea in July.

Speaking to The Sun, Klinsmann said:

The biggest risk for these boys is to be lonely. It’s a psychological risk for a lot of young players going abroad and becoming lonely. Especially now with the Korean language and the English language, it will be very difficult for them.

It’s why some of them bring their siblings over, some of them bring maybe mum and dad. That’s OK. They are scared to get lonely. I have spoken with Brendan. I talked three weeks ago about Oh. But he told me about all three and he likes them very much.

He is happy with how they are progressing. He also said to me that he had a big roster of players at Celtic. I replied, ‘Brendan, I totally understand’ but I said I was just happy that he was satisfied with the three boys, that they were training well and listening to him.

The Korean mentality is that they are very good listeners. They are very disciplined. I told Brendan he will never have an issue with them about character and about discipline.

Ange was fantastic with Oh. He and Brendan are great characters and they care about their players. They are both good people-managers.

A big test for the summer signings will be with Celtic’s Champions League squad with just 17 non-Scottish players allowed by UEFA.

There is going to be disappointment for a couple of players when the hoops prepare for Feyenoord in two weeks time with Hyeok-Kyu Kwon and Tomoki Iwata facing tough competition for midfield places.

He’s the lonely one I finks!
He wouldn’t go the Vatican with the rest of the German squad at Italia ’90, the only one!
Now he’s on the other side of the world preaching about Loneliness to anyone who will listen!
Couldn’t make it up. But shows what length persons will go to to justify themselves!
