Dave Black has described last night’s use of VAR at Ibrox as ‘incredibly, incredibly difficult to take’.

The Livingston CEO watched his side go behind to a 10th minute goal from Abdallah Sima in the confident expectation that VAR would pick up on a very blatant push on Jamie Brandon by the goalscorer.

There seemed little doubt to the outsider that Livingston would be awarded a free kick but for reasons that will never be disclosed Nick Walsh reviewed the incident from a variety of angles and allowed the goal to stand.

The Daily Record reports:

The Lions supremo vented on social media as he rued the video replay system not overturning Willie Collum’s on-field decision to allow Abdallah Sima’s opener. The visitors were adamant the winger had pushed Jamie Brandon to the Ibrox turf during the 4-0 Viaplay Cup quarter final win for Michael Beale’s side.

And Black raised his concerns with clubs paying for VAR while having to withstand what he believes was a blatant error by the match officials in the defeat against Rangers.

Posting on social media, Black said: “Going to places like Ibrox is hard enough as it is but it’s incredibly, incredibly difficult to take the fact that we also have to pay for the introduction of VAR into the game but still have to put up and shut up with this sort of error even yet.”

There is virtually no chance of a comment from Ian Maxwell or Crawford Allan to explain Walsh’s decision, today the part-time referee will be at his day job working on the fitness of Murray Park starlets in the PE Department of Boclair Academy in Bearsden.

Yet again: what are the linesmen for…?

In the replays, the far side linesman is directly in line with the two players,

and has a clear line of sight – and possibly a better view than the ref?

Anyway, no flag and no discussion.

Are the linesmen only allowed to flag for offsides now…?

Exactly why I chucked away a season ticket after 25 years of going to see Celtic Bob (original)…

It wasn’t quite so blatant in the six years we went without winning a trophy but there again it simply didn’t have to be then –

They really really must and should be embarrassed today but won’t be in the slightest…

That pretty much all of their fans and ex players have been honest about it says it all really –

I’m so very very proud of myself for taking the decision to walk away as a paying customer through the turnstiles at Parkhead as last night’s blatant cheating makes me less angry than it would’ve done had I still been paying to watch Celtic FC…

I’m still angry though that officials are destroying the game in this country aided and abetted by the governing bodies –

Anyway glad I don’t contribute even a halfpenny towards the utter farce that is Scottish senior football !

Until our Club stands up and takes the lead on VAR decisions repeatedly favouring Sevco…oh and the biased fixture list…which is a disgrace…Then we will get what we deserve…which is nothing..!!….Our Board is not fit for purpose.

Funny how, in the previous game at Ibrox, the Hun ref couldn’t blow his whistle fast enough for an alleged foul on TavPen (who was basically just beaten to the ball and fell over with no contact whatsoever), when the Motherwell player who was supposed to have fouled him was clean through.

No allowing play to continue, in the knowledge that it can be brought back and any goal disallowed, if VAR concludes that there was a foul. Instead, the ref blew instantly so that VAR couldn’t then intervene.

Could it possibly be that our refs (on the pitch and in the VAR room) are inconsistent in their decision-making and that that inconsistency is, in fact, bias in favour of the one club that routinely seems to benefit mist from it? No penalties in how long now (domestically)?

  • Scouse bhoy says:

Exactly the handball incident at tynecastle set the tone when no one was held to account and it has been a shambolic mess ever since favouring one club. The board are letting the fans down big time by not asking about these glaring errors.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Our board are colourful all right… Yellow Barstewards in Grey suits !

They cannot do much Scouse bhoy about Sevco games but my absolute goodness – we surely surely have had enough of our own games refereed negativity in an utterly farcical manner for them to surely have done or at least said something about…

I’m not holding ma breath about it – That’s for sure !

Martindale is a Sevco plant. He said that was a game for the youngsters. He didn’t start his two best players. He effectively set out a team to fail. He barely challenged the obvious foul. Until Livi fans see him for what he is they can effectively write off 12 points a season, and accept that they’ll never progress in any of the cups if they’re drawn against “the Rangers”*

I don’t know why we are all dancing around the issue.

There is more than enough visual and statistical evidence to question the integrity of Scottish referees.

Wether is be financial gain, intimidation (get out clause in my view), or just cheating and enquiry is overdue.

I stopped paying for this panto when we were cheated out if titles.
