McCoist turns his back on emotional return to Ibrox

Ally McCoist has ruled himself out of a dramatic return to management at Ibrox.

Back in the summer of 2012 the media luvvie became the first ever manager of the Tribute Act but only stayed in post for two and a half years before switching onto gardening leave.

Nine years on McCoist hasn’t returned to the dug out but does have strong views on most things as he watches Celtic hoover up the domestic trophies.

Mark Warburton, Pedro Caixinha, Steven Gerrard and Giovanni van Bronckhorst have all followed McCoist into the manager’s chair with time rapidly running out on Micky Beale’s reign.

Kevin Muscat and John Eustace have both been linked with replacing Beale but after appointing a rookie boss from English football there is some speculation that one of the most experienced bosses in the game could be Ibrox bound.

Tuning in to the radio this morning, The Sun reports:

Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist said: “Michael Beale, I wouldn’t imagine, is under any massive degree of pressure right now. I still think he has a bit of time, I definitely think that.

But Brazil mischievously added: “Neil [Warnock] is quoted in saying ‘I’m not talking about a team where the manager is still in place, they are in my heart and I would love to take McCoist as my number two.”

McCoist responded: “Al, I can’t leave you, mate. It’s a brilliant offer from Neil and I’d like to thank him from the bottom of my heart but you would go to pieces if I left you, frankly – plus the fact that I enjoy our debriefs!”

A Warnock-McCoist dream team would certainly get the backing of bears but it is unlikely that the salary on offer would be able to compare with McCoist’s various media deals.
