John Carver has given a vivid eye-witness account of the full-time scenes at Ibrox last Sunday.

While Micky Beale did a runner down the tunnel at the final whistle his players made an ill-judged lap of honour to thank the bears that had stuck it out till the final whistle of their fourth defeat from Celtic this year.

Sensing that the atmosphere wasn’t the friendliest Carver, assistant manager to Steve Clarke with Scotland, opted to stay on till the crowds had started to disperse.

Around the Directors Box is a mainly elderly group of fans, many on some sort of corporate package but losing to Celtic triggers similar emotions among the richest and poorest of Ibrox fans.

One fan telling ‘you, you, you and you to F**k Off’ went viral but there was a bit more direct action going on around Carver among the well-heeled bears and fat-cats.

The Scotsman reports Carver saying:

I couldn’t wait to get out because they were coming over the top of the directors’ box!

Normally I leave before the end of games to get back down the road but because I was staying up here, I stayed. Walking out there were disgruntled fans trying to come through the front doors as well.

It was a difficult situation. But it was interesting seeing the atmosphere. The banners coming up at the start … I’m coming from St James’, where the atmosphere at Newcastle is fantastic but that was incredible what they did with the banners. It’s a great occasion. Obviously one team had to win, and it was Celtic.

Carver has had three stints as caretaker manager of Newcastle, two during the peek protests against Mike Ashley.

Take it he means fantastic banners at Newcastle and not Sevco !

Just wait until we overtake the combined trophy hall of both Rangers (died c.2012) and Sevco, they will go ballistic, even though we’ve led before but not in my time living…

So Go for that jugular please Celtic…

The entertainment of imploding Huns will be off the bloody Richter scale…

    BRING IT ON !!!!

Thats just another example of a horrendous story for the Ibrox clumpany ,for which the SMSM decided was way too damaging to be printed . Yes , there has been criticism all week for Beale’s inadequacies but it’s all been the softly , softly approach to take care that the anger was cushioned and stifled in the Rangers ‘hour of need ! Can you imagine the absolute flak and carnage the scoops would have printed about Brendan Rodgers if the result had the opposite ending ? The lamb on the menu would have been cut ,seasoned and cooked in 6 different styles ,without any quarter given ……

Very very true indeed John – Just another reason for Celtic fans not to support them in any way financially whatsoever – either through purchasing them or online either !

        Now, come on Clachnacuddin.
I bought a Scottish Daily Mail on the Monday last after the victory at Ibrokes and I can tell you that the Sports section was good reading!
Good accounts of the game from McGarry and McGowan. You must resect these guys opinions because that, football journalism, is their profession.
You get a player by player break down of performances which disputed the views on this site that players are hiding etc.
Any dupe can write this on here and if you are not balanced in your opinions, you might just believe everything that you read!
So credit where credit is due. Balanced reporting has a place in modern sport and is not dependent on who it is that is reporting!

        • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

I agree maister that balanced reporting has a place in modern sport, it’s just that it not very prevalent in The Scottish Football Media, certainly not according to what I read on the blogs in any case – although there seems to be an odd exception to the rule here in what you described, however I certainly won’t be foraging around any newspaper any time soon to find out for myself and will continue to actively discourage any Celtic fans from financially aiding these gutter rags on the back of what lies they publish as highlighted on excellent blogs such as this one…

That said – I have always preferred to face uncomfortable truths rather than comforting lies, and I’ve no doubt that The Scottish Football Media took great pleasure in (correctly) putting the boot into Celtic during the shambolic season of 2020/21, but it’s putting the boot in since then and before then that really ‘rips ma knitting’

But I’ll still never buy them as long as I live – even after a nice surprising (my opinion) win away to Sevco, however I did get my Shadenfreude from listening to all The Clyde Superscoreboard phone in, but with it being Radio it didn’t cost me nothing thankfully !
