The Green Brigade is preparing for a night highlighting the cause of Palestine with an attack on Peter Lawwell.

Before a similar issue arose in 2016 ahead of a match against Hapoel Be’er Sheva the former Celtic CEO warned that the Green Brigade would be finished if they carried through their protest.

There was plenty of opposition in 2016, it was more direct against an Israeli side but brought the support universal acclaim with over £100,000 raised for Palestine charities after the UEFA fine was paid off.

The Celtic board are keeping things strictly off the record with regards to tomorrow’s match but the timing of the decision to withdraw away match tickets for The Green Brigade isn’t a coincidence.

Going by the evidence of Tynecastle on Sunday there is widespread sympathy and backing for the people of Palestine across the Celtic support.

Further conflict within the club seems inevitable, whatever the outcome it is unlikely that The Green Brigade will be finished.

Peter Lawwell is an accountant who wears a Celtic tie!

  • Paddybhoy67 says:

Peter Lawwell is a very rich accountant who wears a Celtic tie.

With that Fundraiser in 2006 raising £100K for Palestinian charities,

I was fully expecting that the Board would do ‘the classy / generous thing’

    and match the amount raised.

Of course, plc or not , that never happened 🙁

But PL – and his bonuses – benefitted directly from the significant, global PR boost

to the Celtic brand, as a result of supporters’ social conscience – and their generosity.

…and we continuously complain about the SFA leadership’s ‘inconsistencies’!

  • Eddie says:

I support the Palestinians. BUT inside Celtic Park I Only support Celtic. Why can’t the Green Brigade do the same.

Editor: Perhaps because they view things rather differently?

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

As far as I know (could be wrong of course) but flags are ok are they not…

But not controversial banners as far as I know –

Collections buckets should be a good idea for much needed donations…

But Celtic getting into more trouble is an absolute NO NO for me !

    • the maister says:

Why should Celtic buy Shankland from Hearts Clachnacuddin, as you suggested?

      • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

I just think he’s got a very decent scoring record at clubs not anywhere near our level maister and would just score for fun at Celtic with the service he’d get…

If we don’t try to get him The Huns might And I think he’d score a barrowload for them as well –

We struggle to get good strikers from abroad and the odd one we do seems to want to move on fairly quickly to pastures new…

I don’t know much about his background (some sites say he is a Hun) but then again so was Daniel Fergus McGrain and Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish and they turned out not too shabby for Celtic !

        • the maister says:

Yes but guy’s the likes of McNeil, Bonner and McStay did a lot more for Celtic!

        • the maister says:

Daniel Fergus McGrain was a hero of mine growing up and he is a Celtic Legend!
He gave his whole career to Celtic, like the three I mentioned: true Celtic men!
But Shankland is a wide call!

  • John A says:

It’s time Peter Lawell was finished at Celtic

  • John S says:

    Jewish Lives Matter.

  • Eldraco says:

They tried to ban the tri colour and Celtic fought the establishment hard to prevent that. The irony abounds.

The trip colour is fine, Ukraine, fine ,butchers apron ,fine, st Andrews, fine , Star of David yup.

But don’t U dare bring the Palestinian flags we the board have spoken!!

    Fuck off!!

    • Bob (original) says:

      We have a winner!

      Of course,

how does the current Board view that significant era in our club’s history:

our Board – at that time – was fighting for the right to fly a flag of their

      choice in their own stadium!

Are we to presume that if PL had been on the Board at that time,

he would have just meekly rolled over – and banned the tricolour?! 🙁

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

I was truly appalled to attend ma first game (on ma own that is v Dunfermline on trophy day) and see The Butchers Apron flying from a flagpole on the extension to The Main Stand at the top of Kerrydale Street…

DISGUSTING and DISGRACEFUL by The Kelly and Whyte Brigade !
