Less than 24 hours after the Celtic board attempted to airbrush the entire history of the club, the Green Brigade has urged fans to bring a Palestine flag to the Champions League match against Atletico Madrid in two weeks time.

While the Celtic statement was riddled with contradictions the Green Brigade issued a very clear statement based on Celtic’s history to explain why they defend the people of Palestine.

Back in 2016 Celtic were fined by UEFA due to thousands of Palestine flags being flown at a Champions League qualifier against Israeli side Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

That issue went global with over £120,000 raised in donations with the balance after the UEFA fine was paid going to charities in Palestine.

Over the last decade the Celtic board has shown incredible consistency in misjudging the mood of supporters, backing for the people of Palestine extends beyond the Green Brigade.

As their statements points out Celtic are happy to go with the Green Brigade when they can be commoditised, anything else and they wish to disassociate themselves.

After yesterday’s statement from Celtic it seems that the Palestine issue is going to dominate through the international break putting the club in conflict with their fans and UEFA.

Neither Michael Nicholson or Peter Lawwell put their name to the club statement, although posted on the club website it wasn’t used on any of the club’s social media platforms.

Off topic here, but why is it every manager linked with sevco has to be mentioned in the sane breath as BIG Ange.
He must really have got under the media skins and the klan fans base skins to get a mention to the extent that managers and players are now using or having to have his MOTIVATION.
Latest sevco nominee for the managers post is apparently using Big Ange’s script.

  • Bob (original) says:

    Good statement issued.

Surely, surely…Lawwell isn’t going to try and ‘ban’ Palestine flags from the

    Atletico Madrid game?

Again: the Board should have kept its own counsel on the Palestine banners.

    Lawwell didn’t think this through…

  • the maister says:

    It is an anodyne
    “Statement”
from Celtic plc and their PR facility.
    Who the heck is
    “Celtic Football Club”?
Is it the dodgers who are in charge of the administration of the Club?
Or is it any of the supporters, who support and follow the Club for their own personal reasons?

  • John S says:

The Green Brigade are not ‘defending’ Palestine, nor was the Hamas slaughter anything to do with ‘liberation’ or even ‘Israel’ as such. The attack (not defence) was upon Jews.
    Keep politics out of Paradise.

    • the maister says:

You can’t keep politics out of Paradise.
For the simple reason that people hold do political opinions.
And when people come together, they are entitled to express their opinions, political or otherwise!

      • Bob (original) says:

        Absolutely!

And FIFA & UEFA have now made it official:

with their displays of Ukraine flags and treatment of Russian football:

politics in football is not only condoned, but actively promoted.

How many trapped, innocent families will the IDF attack…?

      • John S says:

Let them express their political expressions in the appropriate arena of the killing fields. This is not ‘people’ coming together, it’s a football game. There are thousands of political opinions. Everyone is entitled to express theirs but it is a concern when the politics is more important than the football; if ‘people’ want to express political concerns they are free to do so but don’t expect sympathy or fellow-travelling at a football game. Especially not to expect absence of comment on offensive sentiments referencing the massacre of innocent ‘people’.

        • the maister says:

          You are a hypocrite John!
It is a bloody war in Palestine.
And it is obvious that you have chosen sides on Isreal’s side.
Yet you you are on here saying
          “Keep Politics Out Of Paradise”.
          Bloody hypocrite!

    • the maister says:

      Have you got that?

  • Scouse bhoy says:

Criticism of the israeli government has nothing to do about their religion that is the propaganda of the right wing media .there are plenty of jews opposed to them.

  • Stevie says:

What the fck has Palestine got to do with Celtic? If they want to protest do it outside. These jokers need told. UEFA will get pissed off and play games behind closed doors just to make an example. Costing the club money every time.

  • Captain Swing says:

Support for the Palestinian people is probably more needed than ever right now as the understandable but misplaced vengeance of the best equipped armed forces in the region rains down on them while they are unable to escape or even access everyday services. Support for the Palestinian people need not equate to support for or even condoning the murderous actions of Hamas, which lack any military or strategic legitimacy and will at best only provoke a severe and heartless backlash against the non-combatants of Gaza, and at worst plunge the Middle East into yet another bloody conflict. But someone somewhere always benefits from instability and war….

    • John S says:

      Iran.

      • TicToc says:

        Good comment Captain.
BAE Systems benefits from war, all war, and is backed to do so by the Zionist-led, UK/US governments.
If there isn’t a war going on, they’ll cause one. It’s their ONLY profit-maker and substantially owned by Jewish Bankers worldwide.
QUESTION: The term ‘National Debt’ is used daily. It appears to be world-wide with no/few exceptions. All countries seem to suffer from it, or rather, its citizens.
So what is it and who benefits from it.
Could Jewish bankers be most of the answer? Rothschild et cetera?
Did Hitler (an absolute bastard despot IMHO) cotton-on to something he felt was unacceptable? Was the Jewish race trying to over-run everything and dictate to everyone else? Are they, in fact, financial terrorists as well as physical terrorists?
        Je n’est ce pas, mais…………

“After yesterday’s statement from Celtic, it seems that The Palestinian issue is going to dominate through the international break putting the club at conflict with their fans and UEFA”

Absolute music to the ears of the Scottish Football Media then is that…

They will use it to whip up those with different opinions of the ongoing conflict and to whip up and cause division with those Celtic fans who are daft enough to look for The Scottish Football Media’s opinions (Lies no doubt) on things –

Celtic supporters need to be careful not to split or split with the club (and effectively players) over this tragic ongoing issue as it’ll be like a boon to Sevco and their many many cohorts in the Scottish Football Media if we do fragment a bit over this subject !

  • John S says:

Keep politics out of Paradise. All politics. Don’t believe those who bend the Celtic Story to suit their own agendas.

  • TicToc says:

I’ve not read the comments (nor the full article) but my blood boils when I see the bully boys of Israel try to gain International (US/Euro) support to wipe out Palestinians, and THAT IS WHAT THIS IS. That bastard Netanyahu has a life-time focus of the huge enlargement of ‘Israel’ at the cost of ANY local Arab countries.
NETANYAHU IS THE REAL TERRORIST HERE ALONG WITH HIS SUPPORTERS BOTH IN ISRAEL AND WORLDWIDE.
Nelson Mandela was branded a ‘terrorist’ but even the fukkin ‘west’ had to finally admit he had a legitimate cause and was hence a ‘freedom-fighter’ from oppression.
This sickens me so much……I hope I’ve made my point and also some sense.
But, how would Lawwell and other Tory, right-wing arzeholes describe the UNITED IRISHMEN? They were non-sectarian individuals, “UNITED” in a single cause, to give Ireland her freedom, and one day, not so far off, Ireland WILL gain her freedom from the British yoke (joke?). However, if it’s still infected by foreign British Capitalists it’ll not succeed in its own vision of an Irish Socialist State and will hence fail its founding brothers, Connolly and all. I mention Connolly as he saw the absolute NEED for Socialism in Ireland and the RC church stopped it happening. It’s just one of the reasons I fukking hate religion and RC the most as that was what I was born into and almost brainwashed by, but I was too strong to fall for its lies. I saw through it as an 8 year old but tried to grasp it as a 30 year old through outright desperation. I soon saw the 8 year old was correct.

  • the maister says:

The difference between Lawwell and Dick Turpin is that Turpin wore a mask!
