Sam Allardyce is ready to answer the SOS from Ibrox- if he is given a massive January transfer budget.

The disgraced former England boss has developed a reputation as a fire fighter but his most recent appointments ended in failure with West Brom and Leeds getting relegated to The Championship.

Turning 69 later this month Big Sam belongs to the old school of management, after the disastrous spell in charge of Micky Beale a wise old head is bound to carry some appeal to the Ibrox decision makers.

Picking up on an appearance on the Tippy Tappy Football podcast The Sun reports Allardyce saying:

If they came and asked me and talked to me, it would be an honour at Rangers.

Speaking to Alex McLeish and Fergie about it, it’s an unbelievable football club. Not that I am actively promoting myself for the job, but clearly it has not gone (well for Michael Beale). He’s only been in the job two minutes.

There is one massive condition that will terrify the Ibrox board:

I only saved football clubs when I bought, or loaned, four or five players in January.

I’d get in there and hit the recruitment system like the biggest bank you’d ever seen in your life.

My sell was ‘Here I am, I need your help as owners in January – you need to be there’.

After signing nine players on long term contracts in the summer it is unlikely that more funds will be released in January, shifting some of Beale’s signings looks unlikely.

With no obvious candidate emerging Steve Davis and Alex Rae look like being in charge for an extended period, possibly as long as Graeme Murty endured, twice.

The bears would love it, just love it, if an ex-Engerlund manager [1 game! ] took over.

And they still wouldn’t win the league. 🙂

Big Sam would fit right in at Ibrox:

a well dodgy character who was exposed by the BBC.

And his threats to sue the BBC for defamation came to nothing.

Rae Davis it is for possibly the whole season….?

Sorry Sam but with their ego and ‘special club’ supremacy attitude it’s you that has to beg to them matey…

Also good to see that your in the same mould as ‘The man with no surname’ as in – Give me a blank cheque book to buy who I please’ mantra –

At least when John Greig was their manager they maybe only got a few cups but he built a team of largely home grown talents without a blank cheque book in what was a truly great competitive era for Scottish Football !

I would have thought that Allardyce’s no 1 condition to being the possible new the Rangers manager ,was to be paid in CASH ! No need for those horrible tax robots to know about anything ….ought not to be too difficult ?

They would be better with Sam Dingle.

  • John S says:

McLeish and Ferguson would have been talking about the original Rangers who had a sectarian policy for most of its history. Is that an “honour” ? As for big recruitment in January…it’s a polite way of saying it’s not going to happen.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Their sectarian policy for most of the life of Rangers as disgusting it was ended out being very very beneficial to Celtic and every other club in Scottish Football…

That Celtic from her inception in 1888 took a man on by his ability with his Football Boots (or hands in the goalkeeping division) and not by his creed, religion or colour is something that makes me immensely proud the minute that I have thankfully wakened up every day in ma 43 years as a Celtic supporter !

I think sevco should take a gamble on Big Sam. It is because he would take all their money, win nothing and walk away with honour!
