Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he isn’t in any big rush to see Marco Tilio in action.

The Irishman had only been in the door a couple of weeks when the club announced that the Australian winger had been signed on a five year deal.

Tellingly there was no comment from Rodgers when Tilio’s signing was announced although the winger did mention a phone call with his future manager before signing his contract.

Outwith first team matches Celtic have no platform for anyone over the age of 20 meaning that players like Tilio will only have training sessions to make an impression.

Tilio, Kwon Hyeok-kyu, Alexandro Bernabei and Yuki Kobayashi were all left out of Celtic’s Champions League squad with prospects bleak for them although the breakthrough of Liam Scales does offer a little hope that the unexpected can happen.

I’m just going to ask about Marco Tilio. We’ve not seen him yet this season, as he had the injury before he came. How is he doing and how is he looking?

Yeah, it’s just time. I think he will admit it himself, it’s been a really hard transition for him. The intensity of the game is totally different for him to what he’s been used to. It’s been a challenge for him in training.

It’s always difficult when you’re a new player coming into your club, and then you end up being injured for virtually all of pre-season and into September. He’s starting to find his feet in the last three to four weeks. It’s going to take him more time.

I’m not in any big rush for Marco, I think he’ll bring himself to the team as quickly as he can produce in training and over his time here. He’s adapting, but it’s taking a wee bit longer for him, purely because of the intensity of the games, it’s totally different to where he’s come from.

Again, conflict between the Player Trading Model and reality on the ground.
A lot of these Bhoys are going to spend time warming the bench. What they really need is games of football!

Jeez, doesn’t sound too promising if even the training games are a ‘tough transition’ for him. Don’t think we’ll be seeing much of the new Shved anytime soon.

  • KC67 says:

Maybe if we had a proper transfer strategy we would see less of guys like Tilio who can’t even make it onto the bench on match days. Unfortunately we won’t see that until someone takes the scatter gun off both Lawwells.

Looks to me like another PL signing, why was he signed carrying an injury that would keep him out that long?
To me he was signed between Ange leaving and Rodgers arrival, who sanctioned it?
Was he scouted? If so by whom?
