Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that the injury suffered by Reo Hatate against Atletico Madrid is a bad one.

Shortly after Kyogo Furuhashi had opened the scoring the midfielder pulled up clutching his thigh after stretching for the ball in midfield.

Instantly Paolo Bernanrdo was getting ready to come on to replace Hatate who missed a month of action earlier this season with a calf injury.

Rodgers revealed that the midfielder had overstretched after 35 seconds of Wednesday’s match.

Hatate will miss the return match against Atletico in 11 days time with an international break following the match against Aberdeen on November 12.

The bigger concern will be picking up a hamstring injury soon after recovering from a calf knock, the last thing that Celtic or the player needs is a run of muscle injuries.

Bernardo is likely to start Saturday’s match away to Hibs with Tomoki Iwata and David Turnbull the other options with Odin Thiago Holm likely to return to the matchday squad.

Thanks Joe, for letting us know what we suspected but weren’t sure of.
On his game he’s just a fabulous play-maker and he also adds great goals.
It’s a really sore one but begs the question just WTF are they doing in training and with all the scientific help et cetera?
We used to play for about 3-4 hours on a Sunday, often kicking lumps out of each other and then get up and go to work on Monday morning and never give it a thought.
    What’s changed so much?

PS I’d like to see Iwata brought in for Reo as he’s hardly played in Mid and that’s his best position. He didn’t get J League POTY in his last season there for nothing.

You’re probably of Scottish or Irish decent and heritage Tic Toc…

But foreign players just seem to be as soft as a shit level just above watery diarrhoea these days –

We seem to have more than our share of players that pick up these types of injuries unfortunately…

It could very well just be bad luck but also training methods involved…

If so – as you say – WTF are they doing in training !

In a team which is competitive in Europe, the manager would be able to bring in a replacement for Hatate, who is equally as good as Hatate.
    We don’t have that.
The importance of the UCL to the Club is viewed entirely in terms of the balance sheet.
    Isn’t that so, Mr. Lawwell?

Hatate will be missed, he is a fantastic player.
I do hope that whoever comes in takes their chance with great performances.
Celtic know that other positions need strengthening, A left back who can defend is a must, A keeper is required, Also need to have another quality striker.
Positions that were known to be an issue last season but were left unfilled.
Signing players to develop is fine but the 1st team was neglected.
