Gus Lagerbielke picked up the Defender of the Season award from Elfsborg.

The defender had an outstanding start to the season with the Swedish side that earned him a £2m August move to Celtic.

A bizarre run of injuries to Cameron Carter-Vickers, Stephen Welsh and Maik Nawrocki catapulted Lagerbielke into the spotlight alongside Liam Scales.

A slightly shaky at times but successful appearance at Ibrox should have set up the young defender for a lengthy run in the side but that has stalled significantly after he was sent off in the Champions League defeat away to Feyenoord.

Nat Phillips was drafted in on loan at the end of August but the emergence of Liam Scales is the X-Factor in the Celtic defence. The Irishman is the man in possession, bringing balance to the side alongside Carter-Vickers.

Opportunities look limited for Lagerbielks who has struggled to make the bench on most matchdays but with the Ibrox experience to his credit there shouldn’t be much in the Scottish game that will faze him.

Elfsborg lost out on the Swedish title on goal difference to Malmo who beat them 1-0 on Sunday to take the title on goal difference.
