Watch as Andy Halliday justifies brutal attack on Kyogo Furuhashi

Andy Halliday has offered up a ridiculous defence of Slobodan Rubezic for his brutal attack on Kyogo Furuhashi.

Knowing that he was arriving on the scene a split second too late the Aberdeen defender took full advantage to career through, knocking his opponent unconscious before his head thumped off the ground.

Seeing what he had done Rubezic decided to lie down for treatment, while he ‘recovered’ he was booked by Willie Collum with that decision backed up by John Beaton on VAR duty.

I’d like to say the images and video are horrible. They’re not good viewing and it’s really unfortunate to see Kyogo go off with an injury like that. You can see from the collision he was pretty much unconscious instantly so I hope he is well and comes back soon.

For me, we’re being harsh on the individual. My honest opinion is I don’t think it’s a red card. As a defender and as a player in the heat of the game and tempo of the game the ball is there to be won.

I think both players are quite blind sided in terms of the contact. Rubezic is coming from Kyogo’s right hand shoulder and has his eyes on the ball the whole time.

We’re being very harsh to say he’s aiming for Kyogo’s head and I think the collision is horrible to see. We’ve had four concussions at Hearts and it’s just part of a contact sport but I don’t think I can say more than that, I don’t think it’s a red card.

Being a player of very limited ability Halliday seems unable to distinguish between different levels of challenge.

There are a variety of ways to tackle with your boot, most players connect only with the ball but some strike an opponent on the shin or ankle. Halliday specialises on stamping on the Achilles of opponents knowing that his mate Bobby Madden won’t reach for any card.

It is perfectly possible to challenge for a header without knocking out your opponent but on the back of Sunday’s incident Scottish players have licence to inflict similar damage on Celtic players knowing that at worse they will get a yellow card.

An ice hockey player has just been charged with manslaughter for an assault on an opponent which resulted in his death.

Will it have to take something similar to occur in Scottish football before anything is done about these, at the very least reckless and perhaps in some cases deliberate, attacks on players?

Regarding Celtic players, the board should speak up on this now, since Kyogo particularly is the victim every week of attacks that go unpunished by officials.

    • Magua says:

The board have a duty of care towards their employees. Their silence on these, and other matters is shameful. How many members of the PLC, are in a certain ‘Brotherhood’, beloved by SFA officials, and other cheating Huns?

      Hail Hail

      • the maister says:

They also have a Duty of Care to their supporters or patrons.
But with one Supporters Liasson Officer to 50 000 fans, as pointed out on here, what kind of care can you really expect?

    Boyd , Halliday , Ferguson , Miller

In the paper , radio and tv , every Monday , after the weekends games to set up the narrative for the coming week

Wee Halliday doing what wee Halliday does eh.

  • Terence Nova says:

Our Club will say FECK ALL as usual…Not fit for purpose….Sack the Board…and the hangers on.

  • Eldraco says:

What galls me is that no Celtic player squared up to the slob or hammered him in the next few tackles .

All for one and one for all what happened to that Celtic spirit? The same that had one Mr Tommy Gemmell run half the pitch to catch the dirty fouling prick who ran away from him and caught gim with his boot up his arse! the guy was 18 inch of the grass. . Racing club.

    • Charlie Green says:

One of the finest moments in football history and Tommy Gemmell should have been awarded the the ” Wright Bros” medal as that guy flew about 10 ft.

We need someone to push back from the club. Good as he is, Sutton has learned to rein it in slightly but the media is a lost cause.

The old Rangers are the only club in history to have a player banned “sine die”. Willie Woodburn, I believe and he must have been really bad for that to happen but it didn’t stop Sevco lauding him along with other former players recently.
It’s the kind of thing they are proud of.

Yep – Heard him defend the Aberdeen thug on Monday night…

The other guy on the panel some guy called Roger Hannet was scathing of the Aberdeen thug and clearly more intelligence is in his little toenail than Halliday’s whole body –

You know – I never want to see any football player injured but since Monday I’ve had a change of heart regarding Halliday…

Someone should elbow his temple – Certainly not kill him or anything like that – but a good long term head injury to give him time to think about what something like that is to suffer –

Bloody Hell – I’m now stopping to the level of Swallow Swallow Follow Follow – as they are always praying for Hoops players to be badly injured and openly and joyously celebrating when they are injured!

  • the maister says:

Halliday is an employee of Hearts OM FC, right?
So, if he had said that he thought the thug should’ve been Red Carded, he’d be going against the interests of his employer and even bringing the game into disrepute because he’d be publicly disagreeing with a decision made by Scottish Football Referee and his VAR Assistant!.
So, he would never say that!
Which just goes to show what a crappy show it is, that would employ him, as one of their Football Pundits!

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

It’s strange that Hearts allow him this Clyde Superscoreboard malarkey…

Perhaps if it was Radio Firth of Forth (If there is one) then I could see the logic in it a bit better –

But not many Jambos (Scumbos) call Radio Clyde…

Then again he’s Sevco thru n’ thru – So he can do what he wants !
