After awarding a penalty to Aberdeen back in January 2022 Kevin Clancy was back on-message at Dundee on Wednesday night as he lifted the run without having an SPFL penalty awarded against the Ibrox Tribute Act to an incredible 66.

Covering three seasons, four managers and the introduction of VAR it is an incredible run of dedication from Crawford Allan’s foot soldiers.

Other than two weeks at the start of the run the Ibrox club have been second best in Scotland, over the same time span Celtic have had nine penalties awarded against them including two in their first match with VAR.

In any other football environment Conor Goldson would have had at least six penalties awarded against him but in Scotland very different conditions apply.

It is something of a stretch to draw comparisons between Tav and his pals with peak Barca from 2016-2018 but even that that run was being quizzed within the Spanish game.

Subsequent events have shown the suspicions to be correct with Barca now in bother over payments made to a consultancy run by Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, the former vice president of the Spanish refereeing committee.

There is absolutely nothing to suggest any type of similar financial dealings in Scottish football.

For Celtic’s match tomorrow away to Ross County Andrew Dallas will be on VAR duty, in 2019 he awarded four penalties to Steven Gerrard’s side at home to St Mirren.

On Sunday at Hampden Nick Walsh will referee the League Cup semi-final between Hearts and the Tribute Act, on Monday Walsh will be honing the fitness of Murray Park starlets in his day job at Boclair Academy in Bearsden.
