There was one story trending yesterday on the pesky internet and it wasn’t relating to the wonders of Philippe Clement or James Tavernier pen.

With the old school agendas absolutely sidelined David Dickinson found himself in the spotlight or to use a better term – caught out.

On Fourth Official duty at Hampden yesterday, Scott Wright’s goal was met with a smile from Dickinson then when he made eye contact with Clement a nod of approval with the former Monaco boss.

Internet Bampots were all over it, in England the old print media would happily wade in with a dig into Dickinson’s background but Jonny McFarlane has a very, very different agenda.

After the successful launch of the Rangers Review, Newsquest awarded McFarlane with the title of Head of Digital Sport. In essence the awkward merging of fan media and mainstream.

Under McFarlane all Newsquest brands are onto the New Manager Template- every autumn the new man in brogues is bigged up at every turn, his tweaks drooled over and explained to the Gullible & Deluded. Part of the process involves trashing last year’s Messiah.

Unexpectedly the Daily Record, chasing online traffic, decided to make a story out of Dickinson’s celebrations. Simply picking up a few comments from Twitter gave them a popular story, bringing in the sort of pageviews that Newsquest expects from McFarlane, the digital guru with his finger on the pulse (provided it is a story that suits his own football club).

The Herald absolutely won’t go near the 66 SPFL matches that one club has gone without conceding a penalty.

Herald readers are treated to the usual menu today, led by thought provoking and interesting content such as McFarlane’s fantasy that Clement can outperform Celtic he’ll be the Ibrox Harry Potter. Much the same was said of Micky ‘Brains Behind Gerrard’ Beale and Giovanni ‘Arsenal and Barca’ van Bronckhorst.

Two and a half years after launch the Rangers Review has picked up 30,700 Twitter followers, Celtic Underground has 87,900 followers.

In the great scheme of things, can’t get too excited about David Dickinson.

He was probably wearing a sevco top underneath his hoodie anyway.

…and he should have stuck to selling antiques: less controversial!

    🙂
